Got a big spot in my eye in August and went to the eye doctor. I had a hemmorhage. They decided to just "watch it" for awhile. In the meantime, I started back up on the eye vitamins that I slacked off on taking, the Occuguard Plus with Lutein. Fast forward to Oct. 21, they did a retinal scan and the hemmorhage is disappearing! My body is re-absorbing it, apparently. So, no laser surgery. I really think the vitamins have something to do with that, so I thought I'd pass that along. Ro T-1 43 yrs. |

Ro,
That is excellent news... If you don't mind me asking what the spot looked like from your perspective?... Was it a huge blood floater, hazy grey vision, large strands etc...? Does the debris end up settling to the bottom of the eye or do you see it from time to time still?
Cheers!

I once years ago had an eye hemmorhage and swelling, caused double vision . It went away by itself but the eye doctor kept tight control on me, had to go in once a week for over a month. The double vision was the worse, couldn't drive or read or anything. I cherish my vision now. Marge |

Ro, I've had minor eye hemmorhages in the past, but they haven't affected my vision at all, and they usually go away within a few days. They look like my eye got really bloodshot, usually in the inner corner. Is that the same thing? At any rate, I'm glad you're okay and no surgery is on the horizon. Ruth |

Ro, Glad to hear things are looking up. May I ask if the hemorrhage was the result of a new blood vessel, or would this be some out of the blue thing that any diabetic should be prepared to have due to the amount of time with diabetes? I like to be prepared, if there is such a thing in this life. Thanks! Sarah |

Just to answer some questions asked about the hemmorhage. When it started, it looked like a big reddish blob at about 10 o'clock in my vision, sort of blotting out that area of sight. Of course, it was a weekend, but got into the eye dr. first thing the following Monday. It didn't move around, didn't "settle" anywhere. I think I have more floaters now, so maybe as it's dissolving, it becomes little pieces of "lint" in the vitreous. Anyway, that blob is gone now. Hemmorhages in the eye can happen any time to a diabetic. That's why they recommend annual eye exams, although my eye dr. always tells me if something happens, call right away. You can get bleeding right into the vitreous and that Really causes a loss of sight! My diabetic cousin has had that happen. My one optomistrist told me that sometimes when he exams people and sees hemmorhages, he'll ask them if they're diabetic, and if they say no, he'll tell them they should get checked out. Sometimes the eye changes are the first complication to happen in un-diagnosed people. Ro Type 1 43 yrs. |
