My plan - drive by the voting place, if the line's too long, go back this afternoon in an off period. The line wasn't bad so I decided to vote this morning. As I got to the line a worker asked me my address and said they need people from your ward inside. I went in, they wave me to the table, I voted and was out of there in shorter than five minutes. I was so worried about the lines - our news has been saying an average wait for advanced voting is 3 to 4 hours. I'm happy, but kind of sad, I was going to use needing to leave early to vote as an excuse to take the rest of the day off - it's in the high 70s today in Kansas City, good day to get some down time in.

I had originally planned to vote AFTER work, but as I drove by the high school and noticed only a few cars, I decided to stop and vote BEFORE work.  I was in and out in about 10 minutes.

In Oregon we vote by mail and the ballot has to be at the elections board by Election Day.  So ... my ballot was cast a few days ago.  I like voting by mail, as you can sit down with the ballot and issues and take your time making your decisions.

The news lady said down times would be 9-11 and 2-4 so I drove by at 7 and said forget it.  At 9 I left the office, got there, voted and was back in the office in 15 minutes!!! Wow! never thought that would happen.

The Weather man said sunny and 70s....WRONG! Its overcast, dull and chilly. And I'm dressed in light clothes!  burr!!!

Sugarbaby  I voted!!!!

I love voting by mail here in Oregon too Suz!!!  Kevin and I sit down at the table and spread out our paphlets and other research and take our time voting.  There was an issue about County Comissioner that we had questions on and we went online and actually found between the two running mates that answered our question.  Cool!!! We voted a couple of days ago.  I have to say I was kind of glad to get it over with.

Come on Suzanna and Terri, where's your sense of fun. If you wait in line long enough you get to complain.

Actually, it's not that bad. You meet new people, sometimes see people you haven't seen in years. A DJ on the morning show said she was taking a packed box full of water, fruit, nuts, etc. and she was going to offer to her waiting "neighbors" and get to know new people. But...I'm awfully glad I didn't get stuck in the long lines.

Every single time I go to vote, I am struck anew by what a truly great country we live in.  We are free to applaud, criticize, state our opinions.  We are free to vote without fear that someone will track our vote and hurt us or threaten us or our families.  I find going to the polls a very patriotic and affirming experience.

This year, for the first time EVER in the town I live in, there were actually lines at the polling places!  Not long lines (this is, after all, a pretty small town by East Coast standards), but I did have to wait about 10-15 minutes.  And I must say...it was a thrill to see so many people out there voting!  This was a record-breaking turnout for elections and I truly believe that that, more than anything else, is a positive sign for this country.  We got involved...hooray!

I understand what you are saying Ruth!!!  Even though we sat at our dining room table and voted, both my husband and I had a sense of the magnitude of this election and the fact that we have the opportunity to vote as so many others had been denied this right in our history (including women.)  Both Kevin and I were overwhelmed by the acceptance and concession speeches given last night.

United we stand.  Divided we fall.
