Yesterday I went to see the doctor in dermatology at Kaiser Permanente.  I saw a new doctor, very young and very nice.  I am supposed to go in every year for a skin check, since I had that skin cancer removed a little over a year ago.  I had another spot that was worrying me but she said it is okay, just another seborrheic keratosis (similar to a wart ).

Anyway, she asked me about this black spot on my nose.  It looks like one of those black spots we get on our fingers when we prick them.  I told her it had been there for years and the last doctor I talked to said if it wasn't growing not to worry about it.  She looked at it closely and said it was a vascular thing, like a little blood clot and she could remove it.  Yay!!   So she took this sharp heated needle and zapped me over and over and kept saying "are you okay?"  It was a little painful, but I told her I was use to pricking my fingers and giving myself shots all day, so I could handle it.

She also asked me how long I had had vitiligo and if I'd ever had it treated.  I told her no doctor had ever suggested it and I didn't even know there was a treatment.  She said she could bleach out my skin so I wouldn't have these dark patches where I still have color.  She said it was pretty intensive.  I declined.  I've lived with this 40 years; I can live with it another 40.

Anyway ... I like her!  I will ask for her again next year.

Suzanna

Glad to hear it was nothing. Hate to hear it was painful to remove. But I know what you mean with needle sticks. I had to have a catheter inserted into my wrist so they could put in dye for an x-ray. When the nurse noticed me watching the insertion she actually put her hand on my cheek and turned my head. I laughed and said, I stick myself everyday, watching the doctor insert that is not going to bother me.

Glad that it was ok Suz. It is amazing how needles and lancets are just second nature for us.

Hi Suz,  Sorry you had to  have a hot needle stuck into your nose!!!  But I agree, diabetics are tough!!!  Actually I was tough before I was dxd. I just didn't know how tough I was going to have to be!!!

Hey I want to get that vitiligo stuff. I have a large (dime size) brown spot on my face and I hate it!  Makeup covers it up but I would rather it be removed!!!  I need to go to the skin dr. soon.   Soon as I finish paying the lawyer for my recent partner separation.

A hot needle!!?  I've had the dermatologist burn spots off with a can of, oh I can't remember what you call it.  That can hurt, but a hot needle doesn't sound fun at all.  I bet you look cute with a bandaid on your nose.

Glad to hear the black spot on your nose was nothing serious, Suz. I did a Wikipedia on Vitiligo, it said it is associated with autoimmune diseases. I found that interesting... oh, FYI Michael Jackson has Vitiligo.

Cheers!

I had a small spot zapped from the tip of my nose a few years back, but not with a hot needle.  They sprayed it with that can of cold stuff (like Terri, I can't remember the name either) and I had an indentation for a few weeks.

Glad everything worked out for you Suz.

You're right, Danny ... vitiligo is an autoimmune disease.  My first one, followed by thyroid disease, pernicious anemia and finally diabetes!!  Darn my autoimmune system!!

Years ago I use to have these keratoses zapped with that stuff in the can, too (and I can't think of the name either, but it was cold).  But when retired, I chose Kaiser Permanente as my provider and they won't do anything "cosmetic" unless it is threatening your health.  So I was very surprised when this doctor offered to remove my black dot!!    I have just a tiny red dot now that should disappear soon.
