How many of you are working in offices or homes where food abounds? I mean the good stuff? We have companies buying us pizzas and sending us food or taking us out to dinner (althoughI won't mention all the sweet crap that is coming in for Christmas. I can say no to all the funky flavored popcorn, most of the candy, but there is a cookie company called Cheryl & Co that makes some pretty awesome cookies. I have been just allowing myself 1 tiny one in the afternoon before the morning's Janumet craps out around 3-4pm. Do most of you just enjoy yourself when you want something that is maybe not so "nutrionally sound" and just cover it with insulin? I know most of you try to keep your weight controlled.

OMG.......I've had those cookies (Cheryl & Co) that you're talking about and they are sooooooo good!

I work in an office, but fortunately, we don't have any food coming in from customers or vendors.  I bring my lunch every day so I won't "cave" when someone asks me if I want to order something out.........such as pizza, Chinese, or deli sandwiches.

I'm going to be totally honest here.............I am famous for covering junk food by pushing a button on my pump.  I had better control and much better A1c's when I was taking shots.  I LOVE food........and my weakness is sweets.  I usually don't make New Year's resolutions, but this year I am.  I need to cut way back and take control.  My A1c's suck and I'm capable of doing so much better.

I SO appreciate your honesty Karen regarding sweets and other stuff. It's horrible. It's just food, but boy oh boy, it's hard to eat good non-stop. I also have another issue since I've been overweight my whole life (my lowest was 160 back in high school) and now I'm back to where I started at almost 7 years since I was diagnosed to begin with. I don't have to tell you how I somehow imagined that I could make pills last forever while eating poorly (not all the time but a good chunk of the time) and not doing exercise at least 5 times a week. But, it's time to pay the piper and I'm going to try and stay calm and strong about needing insulin and not be a baby. I'm so glad I joined back when I did. I've learned so much from you all and it's good to know I have people to talk to as I transition into this new part of my life. Everyone who's a type 1 and/or type 2 on insulin had no choice and life moves on and I'm sure I sound like a whiner. Between the neck and other stuff, just crappy timing in my life. I'm just having my phase where I just want to forget I have this.

It's hard to keep from falling into bad habits when you give insulin to cover foods.  I am not lecturing here, I am telling you from experience.  I am one of the world's worst about it....I am such an "all or none" person, that sometimes it's easier for me to just not do the extra than to try to do it in moderation.

As long as you can do this in moderation, you can probably get by doing it, and not have problems.  If you have overeating issues (and I do), it can get to be a real problem for you.  The moderation is the hard part for me, because sometimes when I get started on the high carb stuff, I go overboard with it.  Then my mindset gets to be that I've already "blown" it for the day, so why not just go ahead with it....the ups and downs that follow play hell on how you feel.

From experience, if you plan to do this, set some boundaries about how much you are going to "eat and cover for" before you get started.
