How do you feel about the United States giving billions of dollars away to other countries? Should it start at home first in the USA taking care of our own before helping everyone else? Will we always have welfare? families without insurance? kids hungry? uneducated? homeless? |

I feel the goverment is in gross neglect of our own citizens- we need to spend $$$ here taking care of our people and the education system and health care needs a complete overhaul. I believe its a total travesty the way the gov. does not take care of the welfare system- we are in need of a President who can initiate some help in these areas and others. |

Sent: 2/1/2008 1:56 PM How do you feel about the United States giving billions of dollars away to other countries? we will always be giving to other countries because we are a mix of all nationalities... and each person wants their country of origin to receive financial help.... and we are the richest nation.... it is our obligation to help 3rd world countries.. educate them so jobs are created within their countries and it is less immigration into US.... I think that some of the money is used to teach people how to farm so they can take care of their families... and then sell the food for a living... we give away tons of money but we still are not taking care of everyone Should it start at home first in the USA taking care of our own before helping everyone else? this is a tough question because the amount of help varies from state to state... some states give out more money than others.... and I think we do take of our own.... it is called welfare and there are many other programs available to the needy.... sometimes the more we take care of people the less they remember how to take of themselves... and they forget how to think for themselves Will we always have welfare? yes I believe we will... I have no problem with people needing help. and they should receive welfare if they are in capable of working or do to a disability.... but some people are 3rd and 4th generation.... they know how to beat the system.... there was a time that in order to receive welfare, people could not have a car, television and many other things considered a luxury... in my state back before WWII, to receive welfare the person had to work a job provided by either the county or state, ( not sure which).... my sil works for the welfare dept and she said the women never have enough of money but their hair is always done, the nails manicured and lots of gold jewelry on them
families without insurance? I think in my state everyone is covered or they can get insurance for a very low cost.... children are covered until age 18... some of the families that I have heard of with out insurance make it a choice... they want the new car, new house, great vacations and then complain they have no insurance... I believe they need to get their priorities in order.... if the states would allow it, people could join insurance companies across state lines. this creates competition and better priced, (more affordable),health coverage.... and you still get to choose how much health coverage you want/need
kids hungry? I do not like the fact that children are hungry... most schools offer breakfast and my state gives away free food once a month... and my city has several food banks and a soup kitchen that is open to everyone,.... even if they have money....my ds's friend is a case worker..... the mother is too lazy to get out of bed and make breakfast for her child..... she claims to even have a note from her Dr. stating she needs to stay in bed until noon .... some times children are hungry at the fault of the parent
uneducated? there will always be uneducated people... to me being uneducated is a choice.... if you want to do better in life people need to get an education.... and it does not need to be college...
homeless? yes because some are mentally ill.. but there are also people who choose be homeless.... we can not make people be somewhere they don't want to be...
I'd like to add that I also feel if someone is collecting a welfare check they should not be able to buy prepackaged food, like microwaveable pancakes, instant potatoes. etc.. flour, potatoes, making food from scratch goes a lot further.... I hope I don't sound mean but where I live there are tooooooooo many people beating the system.... I see them at the grocery store with their cards....
I believe in the saying "Feed a man a fish, he will only eat for one day, but teach him to fish and he will eat for the rest of his life"
I hope you ladies don't think I am cold hearted.... I just think that too many able bodied people wanting everything while the rest of the US works to support everyone..... sorry to rant |

How do you feel about the United States giving billions of dollars away to other countries? I personally think that we should take care of the people in our own country before giving a helping hand to other countries. Should it start at home first in the USA taking care of our own before helping everyone else? yes Will we always have welfare? families without insurance? kids hungry? uneducated? homeless? I think that we probably will....jewel is correct in many areas that she commented on. As long as we have people that cannot get their priorities straight, we will have welfare recipients, no insurance, hungry children, non educated adults, and homelessness. And no, jewel, you are not cold hearted. |

Not happy about giving money away that we don't have. "Charity begins at home" and that's where our government needs to concentrate right now...especially since we're in a recession right now. The U.S. is going right down the toilet and the current administration is allowing it. |
