I frequently read posts on another group for managers. There was a post that concerned me and I wanted to pass it on so you know the danger of doing this. Pass it on to others you know. A member on the managers Group applied to join a new Group and she received an e-mail questionaire. I will copy it below. Under no circumstances should anyone for any group ever fill this out. When someone requests this type of information on you its unlimited what can be done with the information they want. My first impression is that the person requesting it has a mental issue, is a spammer, they can crack and get your password to groups with all the info. It goes on..... Crazy people lurk behind some groups and you need to keep personal information private unless over time you trust them, etc. Please give your feelings on this after reading the questionaire. Hello and thank you for your interest in joining XXXX. Please complete the application below so we may continue with the application review process . We have a 48 hour window for processing applications, any application not returned by then will be automatically denied. 1.How did you hear about XXXXX? 2.What do you hope to gain from joining our group? 3.What other MSN groups are you a member of? 4.If you are a referral from an existing member , please state members name. 5.What do you like to shop for ? 6 What is your favorite place to shop? 7.What type of jewelry are you most interested in? 8.Who are your favorite designers? 9.What is your full name? 10.What is your home adddress?( include state & zip ) 11.What is your phone number? 12.Do you intend to be an active poster/participant? 13.Do you enjoy chat groups? 14. What will you contribute and bring to the group as a member? 15. Please provide an email address that is not a free one like hotmail, yahoo, etc.,One that can be verified. *XXXX ' is a closed private group with admittance through member referrals and carefully reviewed applications only. We look forward to receiving your completed application within 48 hours so we can review it. Again we thank you for your interest and hope to hear from you soon. XXXX

I would pass up on that group. Asking too many questions that have nothing to do with joining a group. |

Sounds as if they want the info to sell to businesses. |

No they don't want to sell the info to any. They are a closed private group that had been infiltrated by crazies, after getting rid of the "moles" and loonies , they are now being very careful about who they allow in. Actaully their intent is to have anyone respond period, therby verifying the applicant is a real person...not a computer generated program to spam their members with porno and the like. In addition whomever copied and pasted that email and forwarded it to you violated the law by publicly distributing it. If anyone wants further info , they can email me directly. |

That is enlightening information, maven. I guess you are a manager or member ? One can't be too careful on the internet, so it is good to be made aware of both views. |

REPOSTING HERE FOR MIN... From: min | Sent: 4/10/2008 2:05 AM | Hi Angel I have read it and the persons who put that up should be whipped taking advantage of people. It is a scam to get everyones personal information to onsell to these big companies. Unfortunately there is people who will feed them the information they want and make these persons. a little richer.Totally out of line it is.It makes me angry. Min | |

Maven- I received your email inregards to this thread on Divas and will respond to it here . I keep nothing from the Divas. This has me in an odd situation knowing you are the one who sent that e-mail out that I found on another Group board for managers. First of all it is not against MSN rules or anyone elses to copy an email leaving names out of it. Anyone can feel free to repost that anywhere they wish. As far as your choice of sending a form like that to your members wanting to join is your business but I would definitely question the legality of it within the MSN rules. The internet boards advises others not to give out personal information including MSN. My feelings are clearly stated in post #1. If you are so frustrated with spammers then you could set your board up on moderation. There is never an excuse to treat people the way you did by expecting them to fill that form out. I myself would never give information out to anyone like that. When you joined Divas you received an email from me asking your age and stateing that it was for woman only and a few rules, nothing else. I normally verify all e-mail addresses just by haing one e-mail me back before joining. There are many ways to feel comfortable in accepting a new member then there is always that delete button to remove them if there is any problem. |

Some of the questions I can understand and would even answer but to ask for someones address? or an email address that isn't free like MSN? How many people even have an email account they pay for? or are they requesting a work email? I don't give that out to just anyone. This group doesn't want anyone new to join by the questions they ask. |

"She" has left the Divas on her own. I would have removed her by tonight but wanted her to have the chance to respond. I simply cannot believe the irony of me posting that and her turning out to be a new member here. I would not have known if she had kept quiet over it but she told me it was hers. Oh well my point of all this was never give personal information out unless you trust someone you're giving it to. LOL!...... |

Angelbear - thanks for posting the email, her response and yours. I don't belong to any other group - just Divas - and I certainly would not have joined here if you had a questionnaire like that one! Thank you for your work in making Divas the warm & friendly place it is! whoopi |
