Hi Divas, strange how life unfolds, just haven't been motivated enough to "diet" - really decrease calories to go from stretchy sized 14s back to slim cut 12s that fit 3 years ago, but when I heard how high my triglycerides and cholesterol was this week, I got my wake up call, and this diva is taking charge of what goes down her mouth!

I stopped at grocery and got plain turkey from deli counter, bought veges, skimmed milk, fat free cottage cheese, whole wheat crackers, whole wheat buns and I will do this, I can do this, with God's help of course too.  And a hubby that doesn't want his wife dying of heart disease.

Ladies: if you haven't gotten your cholesterol and triglycerides done lately, do yourself and your family a favor and get them done.   It is a fact Heart Disease is the number 1 killer for women, we so worry about everyone else, we put our own health concerns to the side.

I did agree to going on a med, Tricor, but hoping to get off that someday after I get my numbers down.

I already exercise, so that is a positive in my corner, and I eat flax seed and soy, so not like I was living on donuts, twinkies and ice cream 24/7.

You will be hearing from a healthier Josie here!   hugs,   Josie

Good deal Josie!

I know that when I turned 50, I started looking more into my health.  I didn't eat bad, I just didn't exercise or really watch what I ate.  Now I exercise 3 times a week at least and take calcium, multi vitamin, 81 milligrams of aspirin and watch that I don't eat alot of junk.  No more fast food and I try to eat light.  I do feel 100% better.  My lab work was ok so I want to keep it that way.

Here's to being healthy!!

It will be interesting and maybe motivating to hear of your progress.

I just ordered Dr. Gott's book : No Flour No Sugar diet.
It sounds difficult to this sugar addict but I thought it might have some good ideas.

Has anyone read it?

Hey, Josie. good for you. I have high cholesterol, too. It is genetic. My mother weighs 125 and eats healthier than anyone I know (when she eats). She has high cholesterol and meds manage it. As a matter of fact, her doctor recently told her she could stop the cholesterol meds if she insisted. It's probably as good as it will get.

I'm starting a diet to make me feel better. Actually, I'm aiming at being more fit. the trick for me is being consistent! I SO can't get started with exercise. Once I start I'm fine but I can think of more reasons to NOT start!!!

Thanks everyone, I bought an AHA book about no fad diets and it has recipes in the second part, and went onto Amazon and ordered their latest cookbook and another book about healthy eating.   Hubby will support my efforts in this, but he will NOT eat the healthier food with me, so I am just going to have to make the extra effort to make 2 different things at meals, I am worth the extra effort!

I applaud everyone's efforts to eat healthier.

I do take an aspirin, calcium/Vitamin D, evening primrose oil, so I try and do healthy things, just age and too many desserts and fried foods has caught up to me.

hugs,  Josie
