I really didn't intend to make my first post a question but last night I was making a siggie for my daughter and found this little problem.  I am leaving the background yellow here so you can see what I mean.
The first two siggies I made some time ago and you can see the drop shadow on them is the intended color of the siggie.  Whereas the one I made last night for the daughter has that ugly white around it when it optimizes in AS.
When I tried to do as the tut instructed and put the first frame in AS and then added subsequent frames "after current frames" it would make the end result jump.  In other words, the first frame I would put in AS did not have that slider bar underneath and the rest did so it makes the first frame set lower.  So instead of having it jump I just saved each frame and then opened them up in AS with the Wizard.
Anyway, can someone tell me, A)
how I avoided the white border as in the first two done quite a while back.
B) how to do the "after current frame" without the first frame setting lower than the rest and causing it to jump.
I am by no means a Pro at PSP but am not exactly a novice either and can't figure this one.  It may be as plain as the nose on my face and that may, therefore be the problem.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
OK, this is a total oops.  I meant to put just the vague drop shadow of the purple on it as I did the ones above.  But anyway, hopefully the ugly white otimization shadow shows up here too which is what I am trying to avoid.  I can avoid that big ugly purple one,  I was just playing trying to get rid of the white one.

Hi Candy, I SO remember having the exact same problems when I started!
Ok, the first question, as to the optimization of the drop shadow.  When you optimize, on the "partial transparant" screen, click where it says to use a certain color for partial transparencies and choose a very light color similar to your tag, in this case choose a light lavender.  If you don't like the results, (you'll be able to see it right away in a.s.), click undo and try a different color.
Also take a look HERE, Diane has posted a tutorial explaining the whole optimization process, which should give you a better understanding of it.
 
The second question, about the jumping.  As you suspected, this happens if the graphics in each frame are not the same size.  The way I always do it (everyone has different methods, so you might try different things and see what works for you) is I always saveas in psp and then open what I saved in a.s.  If you do that, it will never jump, I guarantee it!  It's also less steps, less clicking.  If your files don't open in a.s., then you need to change the saveas options in psp to save the file as version 7.  To do this, when you click saveas and you get the save window, see the bottom right button that says "options".  click that, and change the setting to save as version 7.  You should only have to do this once, then it will always save that way unless you change it again.  Then your file should open in a.s.

Firstly, what a pretty name.  Secondly, I can sense this is such a nice little group.  I am glad I found it.  I'm trying now to remember how I came across you.  LOL
 
Thank you kindly for your response and your time.  As I said in my first post, that bottom sig was a total oops where I was just trying to get rid of the white optimization altogether or at least get it much thinner after the color coordinated drop shadow as on my red one and green one.  Then I didn't get to get back here to post this post.
 
I am actually, believe it or not now (LOL) quite familiar with AS and the optimization.  But since I hadn't done this particular siggie in such a long time I couldn't remember which setting I used on them to get a minimal of the white.  If you will note in the first two in my first post, you can barely see any of the white after the red drop shadow or the green drop shadow.
So what I had to do was go thru my folder with my different settings for optimizing, which varies with some different graphics. I find that just one setting doesn't always work so neatly with each and every graphic.
So here are some samples; I'll put them on a colored background so you can see better what I mean about trying to get less of the white.  And the setting I finally used on the top purple siggie is 35 which is clearly the one I used back then on the red one and green one.  With the tut wanting the colored drop shadow to match the color of the text, I just think the less white the better it looks.
Then the purple bottom one here you can see more of the white and the optimization setting is 1.  The setting really makes a difference.  So now I wrote what setting I used with this siggie in the folder with it.  :-Þ

     

          

 

                    

 
Now on the jumping, oh indeedy, you can't use different size graphics.  But this jumping was on this sig where all of the frames were the same size as they all came from the original with a Shift +D.  Here is why the one frame jumped but I just don't remember this being a problem before so I think/thought something is amuck with AS.
You can see because of the scroll bar under Frame 2 that it sets higher so it makes it jump when I animate all 6 of the frames.  I swear that didn't use to happen so what is up with it?  What I ended up doing is just saving them all in PSP and then opening them in AS that way so they were all on a level playing field so to speak. :-)

Hi Candy, yeah in the end optimizing just takes practice.  Sounds like you have a good understanding of it, so just keep playing with it!  I do see what you mean about your tags there.  Personally I have just given to rarely putting drop shadows on the outsides of my tags, then I don't even have to deal with that LOL
 
As for the jumping, it's not the size of the window in psp that it comes from, but the size of the graphic within it (the outer boundary of your tag).  It's the same as if you do a copy/paste as a new image within psp.  You'll notice that the window will come up to the exact size it needs to to contain the graphic.  My suspicion on what happened with yours here, is that one of the sparkles reaches down farther than the others, making the maximum boundary of  that frame bigger. 
That sounds like mud, even to me LOL.  If that didn't make sense let me know I'll try to explain it better.

That is a very good idea - just leave the thing off altogether.  In the case of these little siggies  I do think the color of the shadow to match the image is rather nice.  Then AS has to muck it up with the optimization.  I have a friend who uses animagic gif animator and says she avoids the optimization.  I may look into that.

Oh and thanks for the idea about the jumping frame.  I hadn't done anything in AS for a while and just couldn't figure out why now it was doing that.  But that is a very likely, good idea/reason why it did that; the sparkle making the overall frame larger.  Thanks for that and I will put it thru again the same way and then look at that frame to see what the prob is.
