My Great Grandmother was, Catherine Cecelia Fitzgerald, daughter of William Fitzgerald (Engineer) of 36 Wentworth Place, Merrion Square, Dublin. She married my Gt Grandfather Frederick Lewis Barnes in Aldershot, Hampshire in 1897. He was in the military and after their son's birth in 1898; my grandfather (John Ernest Barnes) and she it would appear moved back to Dublin. I think this is the case as there is no record of them in the 1901 Census for England. Frederick's military records show him as a widower in 1920. Catherine died in 1916 I think? (document a little difficult to read). I have no idea what happened to Frederick Lewis after 1923 and I have assumed he settled in Ireland. My grandfather John married a Mary Bridget O'Flynn and they settled in Limerick c1919.

Absolutely any information about the Fitzgeralds, Barnes or O'Flynns would be gratefully received. Thankyou.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for looking. I had come across that C.C. Barnes before but I am sure she ended her days in Dublin and looking at her husbands Military Pension Records it looks very much like 1916 to me. Just wish I could get access to the 1901/1911 Census for Dublin. Frustrating and infuriating.
Best Wishes,
James

Hello Again,
I pretty much have all activity in England covered but thanks for taking the time. It's really just what happened in Ireland that is bugging me.

Hi Fran,

Thanks for that. I got that certificate a while back. Strange
certificate that one as it looks like Frederick may have been slightly
economical about his age! He says he is 30 where in fact he was 32.
Guess as it was a military marriage and people lied to get into the
army, he was covering his tracks. He really seems to have covered his
tracks well as he seems to fall off the earth around 1923. Just
praying that something comes through from over the Irish sea!

Best Wishes,

James

Hi fran,
Sorry about my inactivity (computer problems!) I see you have found some Limerick O'Flynns. All I know is that my grandmother Mary Bridget O'Flynn hailed from there. She was born c.1892. She was some years older than my grandfather John Ernest Barnes. I know she had siblings and that one of them was Michael O'Flynn. She was working as an actress in Dublin when she met her husband who was in the Irish Guards. I guess they probably married in about 1918 as their first born, Christopher came along in 1919. At this point they had settled in Limerick. They stayed in Limerick until about 1929/30 when the family migrated to England. The last address I have for the family is Pump Lane, Limerick. Hope this is of some use.
James
