Annie Brown or Annie Browne was born in Co Wicklow, From the poor state of the Birth Certificate it appears to be in "Rathmore" on the 14th September 1906. the rest of the family details conected to her birth place and Co Wicklow I cannot trace. She Married Mr John Patrick Barnett on the 16th January 1932 in Co Wicklow in the Diocese of Dublin. I am trying to put together Annie Brown/Browne family before and after her Birth so far after 14 years I have drawn a blank. Annie Brown/Browne was/is the Mother of my Wife Janet Ann Worthy Ne: Barnett. I have a Marriage Certificate but it gives no more information other than the parish details has extra detail that I cannot read.

Hi Fran

Many thanks for your recent communication. The Birth Certificate of Annie Brown or Browne was virtually destroyed to that end I have copied it almost to its original accuracy as far as could be identified. Annie was born on the 14TH September 1906, it appears that the birth certificate states in the district of Rathdrum in the county of Wicklow. It also appears she was born in Rathmore. As there are a couple of RATH***** in the area thus other areas could be considered however I am sure that we are looking at Rathmore as her registered place of birth she was also born into the Roman Catholic faith. Her Father Patrick Brown was a farmhand and her Mother Mary Anne Brown or Browne formally Dempsey was a housewife. The confusion of the surname has arisen due to the Birth certificate appears to be Brown however the marriage certificate states (Again in bad condition) the surname as Browne. Annie married in a Roman Catholic Church a John Patrick Barnett on the 16TH January 1932 in the diocese of Dublin the Parish appears to be something like “COLYOW”, Co Wicklow, but I cannot find any village with such a name in the area, John Patrick Barnett was born in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire on the 10TH March 1910. If a push comes to a shove I could scan the Marriage & copy Birth certificate for you. Another detail that I have been searching for which may well be in the genes Reunited files is the addresses of the various Parish and or Diocese in that part of Southern Ireland.

Thanks Fran for the interest that you have given to me so far.

Regards

Hi All
Since my last message way back on the 11th February 2007 I have been actively in search of further information regarding my wifes mother's family background and finally after almost 14 years of searching I have finally come up with a positive answer. I originally stated that from a very poor copy of a birth certificate she was born in Rathmore, Co Wicklow. That statement has been missleading me all these years. I now have an official copy of her birth certificate and her marriage certificate, she was born as previously stated on the 14th January 1906 not as previously believed in Rathmore but in Rathnew, Co.Wicklow. Her mothers maiden name was Dempsey who married a Patrick BROWN in Ashford, Co Wicklow, on the 16th January 1932 again not as previously believed to be spelt Browne. Both families due to their very poor background are believed to have lived all their lives in that area. I have now written to the Parish Priest of Ashford, Co.Wicklow and I hope a reply of some description will be received in due course. I will keep you informed of that outcome. Anyone wishing to receive any of the updates that I have uncovered are more than welcome to contact me.
Regards
