Hello

I am working on my  Balfour family tree. (<st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">SCOTLAND</st1:place></st1:country-region>)

<o:p> </o:p>

My grandfather was James Milne Balfour(born 1873) who was one of 10 children born to George Dalziel Balfour (b1846) & Jessie Scrimgeour/Scrymgeour) married in 1871.

<o:p> </o:p>

My intention is to trace the family tree down to the present year (2007).

<o:p> </o:p>

I am trying to trace Margaret Ann (Meta) Balfour born 1872 who married James Dawson in 1899(<st1:City w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Newington</st1:place></st1:City>).

<o:p> </o:p>

Also Anne Athol Balfour born 1880? Married Samuel Douglas Pitt 1909.Newington

<o:p> </o:p>

These couples may have moved to <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">South Africa</st1:place></st1:country-region>.

<o:p> </o:p>

I am also  trying to find the grand children of John Milne Balfour (one of the 10 children) who married Alice Margaret McKinlay/McKinley in 1896.

<o:p> </o:p>

John & Alices children were

Evan McKinlay Balfour born 1902 no details of marriage

Charles John Balfour born 1895 married Elizabeth Cameron in 1916 ?St Giles

James George Balfour born 1897 married Rebecca Jane Inkster in 1920 ?St Giles

George Dalziel Balfour born 1899 married Sophia Muir in 1923 ?St Giles

<o:p> </o:p>

Hope I haven’t given you to big a task. I would be grateful of any help you can give me.

<o:p> </o:p>

Thanking you in advance

Regards

Margaret Balfour  Mercer

Fran

I am not positive about this. I got this info from my NZ cousin.

Anne Athol married name was Pitt

Her husband was Samuel Douglas PITT

They married in 1899

They had a daughter also called Athol

I don’t know the year they went to Sth Africa, guessing anytime after they were married

Jessie Enga Balfour married James Dawson in 1899

She had 1 son & 2 daughters

Jessie died in 1963

This afternoon I phoned about 6 Pitts in J/burg. I just got the names from the Sth African phone book & thought I would give it a shot by trying to locate a living relative. No luck though.

Cheers

Maggie

Yes a long shot. But you never know. I have a few more to ring, But your lead may be one I am looking for.(passenger list)
There is not much on the Sth African phone book on the web. I spoike to a South African friend of mine today & he to experienced lack of detail on the web for the phone book, but he has given me a bit of a clue there. His wife is going to J'burg in July & he will ask her to find out the setails on the phone book situation.

Sorry about the Margaret & Anne details.
Margaret Ann Balfour was married to James Dawson in 1899.
Anne Athol was married to Samuel Douglas Pitt in 1909.
I  believe Anne & Samuel had a daughter called Athol too.
My cousin told me that apparently the father(Samuel) wouldn't travel with the daughter as she apparently was a "naughty" child. It seems that it may be the other way around. Mother travelling by herself.??

I downloaded lizardtech OK & have saved the documrnt. I will have to go thelizard website & check out what else I can use it for.

Thank you very much for the passenger lists.

I was trying to work out why Anne went to Capetown in June then again latter in Sept.
My mum was born in J'burg in 1915. Maybe Anne went to visit her sister inlaw Catherine & brother James(my grandparents) & possibly James said that Sth Africa was a great place to live & so latter in Sept they moved there??!!

Cheers
