Mike, Many thanks for all this info. I had already accessed this site as I have known the person who started it for a couple of years and his site is fantastic as he has put so much work into it
I know our archives in n.s.w. have PRO records on film from england but the problem is that they are very difficult to follow as they are in original handwriting and often faded and difficult to read and also some of them are out of sequence
I went through them for my gg grandfather who was with the 99th regiment of foot (Lanarkshire reg.) a couple of years ago to find the ship he came on and more info but you need extremely good eyesight to read these film records and unfortunately I do not have this luxury any more
I am also unable to travel into the city as I am not very mobile.
Another family member is going to check these out as soon as she can but she lives in the country a long way from sydney but is going to do it in the future so we may have to wait
This Barrie Chapman has done a tremendous job with listing british soldiers who came here and he is giving them their own page if people send him enough info on any particular soldier so they will not be forgotten
The poor soldiers were not always treated very well either & if they did anything wrong they were punished severely.
I have also been in contact with Ken and he is a fountain of knowledge.
thanks again for all your trouble..............Liz
