Hi Mike & Managers
Here are my details and the information I have so far concerning my search for the elusive Callaghans....
I have been searching for almost 3 years now so I have good knowledge of the area & parishes. I visited in Nov 2006 but had no luck when I paid for a search at the Tipperary Family Heratige Research Centre. I expected miracles and came home very disappointed indeed, I almost gave up but .... we pick ourselves up and start again dont we, its a obsession with me this ancestry stuff, right I`ll get back to my details.....lol..
These ancestors lived bang on the border of two counties-County Tipperary & County Kilkenny in the parishes of Gortnahoe, Fennor & Urlingford.
#1   James Callaghan born abt 1850 married (possibly Bridget??) Armstrong also born abt 1850 had siblings but i only have the name of one son James.

#2   James Callaghan born 1873 died 1947 married Margaret Nolan born abt 1880 died 1906 had siblings son James born 1901 & daughter Johanna born 1908 plus others too ??

#3   James Callaghan 1901 married 1929 to Margaret Coady born 1909. These are my Grandparents.

Johanna (Hanna) Callaghan daughter of James Callaghan #2 married Joseph Grace born 1904. I am interested in Josephs mother Mary Grace, Joseph was born out of wedlock and would like to find his father.

Phew ! What a lot to take in, I hope it makes sense
May I add to save any confusion that I am a member of Genesreunited, Ancestry, Rootsweb, RootsChat, Irelandcalls(Towncrossing) plus numerous others. I have posted on all these sites & I always use the same name Patzy_c70. Janet Kingsford is my cousin & has also posted on most of these sites too. I hope this helps.
Thank you for your time. Fingers crossed Pat Callaghan.

Thanks Marian, I read through all the Armstrongs but couldnt find any connection. As this information of Bridget Armstrong is of word of mouth passed down the generations I will leave it rest until more is uncovered. Im grateful for your help, very grateful indeed. Patzy C

Hello Marian well as yet Ive had no luck with Callaghan & Armstrong however I will keep going.
Thought I had best post a few more details about James Callaghan b 1901. These names and dates have been
given to me so Im not a 100% sure on the follow info, but you never know someone could read this post and see a connection .... as you can tell Im a optimist LOL.

James Callaghan had several brothers and sisters Johanna b1908(a definate, seen her grave) Patrick b c1910, Elizabeth b c1911.  John b c1912. Thomas b c1913.  Margaret b c1914.  Molly b c1915.
Johanna maried Joseph Grace.
Thomas married Constance (Connie) Whelan.
Margaret married John Norris.

Hi everyone.
I was uncertain of the actual town that my Grandfather James Callaghan was born in so I named a few/areas in previous posts.
I know now he was born 1901 in Urlingford, his cert confirms Margaret Nolan was his mother too. Its nice to know somethings are correct as we all get a little worried that we may have been given the wrong information from relatives. Yet still no sign of these Callaghans anywhere in Urlingford. On his birth cert his name is spelt Callahan yet on his marriage cert his name is spelt O`Callaghan. Just proves to search for all variants.
Thanks Patzy C

Hi managers, Id like to make a correction on the very first post I made here on EIFS please.
I have found that I have been looking for the wrong person for over three years!!! Not sure whether to laugh or cry really, I suppose I should be grateful I found out now and not ten years down the line
I have been looking for James Callaghan born c1850 married to Bridget Armstrong born  c1850 -  the marraige cert of their son James states father as JOHN CALLAGHAN!!! All the other info in previous posts is correct.
Thanks for your time. Best wishes Patzy C x

Hello Managers. Yes Mike I suppose this happens a lot, it was soul destroying at first but once it sunk in I decided to take this new information buy the horns and Im needing help or advice please.

Yesterday I stumbled across a John & Bridget Callaghan - Garrymore. Cappalough. Co.Laois in the 1901 census. This is the first time Ive come across a John  & Bridget together! Its a long shot I know but I need to find something more if only to rule this couple out.  If I can find either the marraige/death of Bridget Armstrong & John Callaghan in Co.Laois or the birth of the son James c1873 or infact ANYTHING then I know Ive got my ancestors. I have also found Callaghans in Mountmellick not far from Cappalough Co.Laois.
Can you help or point me in the right direction. Heres hoping & thank you Patzy C

Dear Mike your more than likely right ...... but keep in mind Bridget & John had James in 1873, she must have been born at least 1854/5.  Unfortunately Bridget b 1871 Holycross is too late.
I have tried for their marriage in both Tipperary and Kilkenny, yes there is lots of John Callaghans and Bridget Armstrongs marriages but none are of the same year in either County.
I have sat for hours searching possible matches on the IGI, mainly on Irish Family History Foundation through every Bridget/Biddy/Bridgetam Armstrong marriage in every parish/district available (may sound insane) in every County online.
That leaves the Counties that arent yet avaiable online including Laois. So I hope you see why I asked for help in this but if your sure Im looking in the wrong place Ill sit and wait. Your usually right ha ha.
Thanks Patzy C
