My sister and I have traced our Mitochondrial DNA back to a grandmother born in 1740.  However the grands that came from England to Canada were born circa 1840.  We are interested in the grandfather Johnathan Marshall Coulson (Gibbons) born March 17, 1840 Lincolnshire, England  Emigrated 1875.  Birth Registration Apr. 7, 1840  In 1851 he resided at 76 Henry Lane, Bardney, Lincolnshire, England.

We are under an assumption that his mother may have not been married at the time of his birth and he was registered under her maiden name.  His siblings seem to be named Gibbons

He married Elizabeth Codd  Sept 30 1861 in Bardney Parish Church One source gives his date of birth as Mar 18, 1840

We would love to have a photo of 76 Henry Lane if it still exsists. if that is possible.

Thank you

Candy S

Hello Candy

Well, having searched the censuses in vain for Jonathan Marshall Coulson, I quite easily found the "Gibbons" family living at 76 Henry Lane, Bardney as follows.  In the first census the name was spelled Gibbins.

1841 English Census

William Gibbins  30  born c1811
Charlotte - wife - 25  born c1816
Joseph 5   born c1836
John 3  born c1838
Marshall 1  born c1840

1851

William Gibbons  39
Charlotte - wife - 35
John  14
Marshall  11
William  7  born c1844
Elizabeth  3  born c1848
Thomas 6 months  born 1850

1861

William Gibbons 51
Charlotte 37
Marshall  21
William 17
Thomas 10
Agnes 6  born c1855

Ten years later Marshall is married to Eliza and they have eight children:

1871

Marshall COLTON  33  born Bardney c1838
Eliza Colton  30  born c1841
Mary Ann Colton11
Hannah Colton 10
Harriet Colton 8
W. P. Colton 6
Thomas Colton 4
Betsy Colton 3
Frances Colton 3

Now, here are Jonathan's birth and marriage records.

Candy - Regarding the photos you are seeking, I have posted a message on your behalf on the General board appealing for help with this.

None of the managers live anywhere near Lincolnshire, but maybe one of the members does, who knows?  Here's hoping.

Thank you all for the wonderful information.  Maybe you would like to know that Marshall & Elizabeth Coulson and 6 children came to Canada sometime between 1874 and 1876.  They had at least 4 more children Fanny abt 1876, Robert abt 1879 and my grandmother, Florence 1880 and Emmaline.  They settled near Streetsville, Ontario, but some of the children moved as far as Victoria, B.C.  My Grandmother, Florence died in childbirth in southern Alberta when my mother was only 2 years old.  Until 5 years ago, Florence was just a name, but one night we had a break through and within hours we found out all her siblings and parents.  Since then information has come in bits and pieces.  My sister has been to England when her husband was working there, but at that time we did not have the information on birth places.
Thank you again for all your assistance.

We are really pleased for you, Candy.  It is wonderful when you have a breakthrough like that.  I think it probably happens to us all at some point.  So we know the feeling!  Well done.

Best wishes
Marian
