Hello
I'm now trying to find out about my Father's side of the family tree and only have this to go on. My father is called Martin Connor and is one of four brothers (Bob, Arthur and Lloyd being the other three) who all have Thomas Huges as thier father. My Father was born in Bath but I have been told that Thomas was either born in the West Country or Wales. He married Peggy who's surname might have been Bruce, was born in Anglesea,Wales and who later married Roy Connor. I would like to learn more about my ancestors on this side as I know very little. Thanks.
Kate.

Hi Kate

This is Kay again here and I'll see if I can help you find more information on your father's side of the family.

To get us started, could you tell me exactly what you already known about your father and uncles.  For example, I'm guessed they were born around 1945-50 but do you have any actual dates or years?  If their father was Thomas Hughes, presumably they were all born Hughes, not Connor?  And are they all alive today?

Regarding Thomas Hughes, do you have any year of birth for him, even approximate?  Or a year of death?

If you can let me know anything on the above I will see what I can find for you.

Many thanks.

Hello Kay,
I think that my dad was born around 1950 and is the youngest of the four brothers. Bob is the eldest and I think is around 10 years older than my dad. My dad and Lloyd both have the surname Connor and Bob and Arthur are both Hughes. I have been told that Thomas was my dad and Lloyd's Father but I'm not sure when their surname changed. Thomas was born around 1910 and I think died in the late 80's early 90's. All the brothers are still alive but, I have not seen my dad since I was 9 and don't have much contact with this side of my family. I have recently met my dad's eldest son Stephen who just turned 20 and have two other half brothers called Paul and Michael, my dad remarried a lady called Beverly. My Grandmother Peggy remarried a Roy Connor which is where this name comes from. I hope this will help. Thanks.
Kate.

Well Kate, I've found one bit of information, see if you think it might fit:

LLOYD DAVID HUGHES
Born:  7 July 1951 - Mother's maiden name PRICE
Died: July 1991 in Bristol

Price and Bruce sound a little similar.  There are not too many Lloyds with surnames Hughes or Connor and presumably if Thomas was the father of all four, they would have been registered as HUGHES.

I will delve further for you.  Check back regularly.

Here are two entries I've found, possibly, for your father, assuming he was registered as Hughes at his birth.

MARTIN HUGHES b: JAS 1950 Llanelly.  Mother's maiden name MORRIS.

MARTIN R HUGHES b: OND 1949 Bangor.  Mother's maiden name PRICE.

Bangor is not near Bristol of course but the maiden name of PRICE stood out and bearing in mind the record of Lloyd (above) also states Price as the mother's maiden name I'm wondering if this is a good indicator, or just coincidence.

I will try to find the other brothers and report back with my findings.

Just a thought Kate, do you happen to know if your grandmother's Christian name was actually Peggy or was it an abbreviation for something like Margaret.  Likewise, your dad's brother Bob - could this have been an abbreviation for Robert?

Might help narrow down the search.

Working on the basis of your grandmother's maiden name being PRICE I have done a search for Peggy Price born between 1909 and 1919 and found the following, which bearing in mind the areas of the two possible children above, could fit.

Births Sep 1909   (>99%)
PRICE  Peggy Lucille    Llanelly  11a 1284

Let me know what you think.

Here is another that's come to light:

Births Sep 1912   (>99%)
Price  Peggy E  Price  Cardiff  11a 1012

Hello Kay,
I spoke to my mum who thinks that Martin Stephen Connor was born at St Martins in Bath on 08/03/1952. He is still alive as are all the brothers, Lloyd included. Bob is indeed a Robert, born in 1937, and Peggy was a Margaret Bruce born in Mona, Anglesea and died in the early 90's in Bath. Arthur has the middle name Noel. Thomas and Peggy went there separate way's whilst Peggy was pregnant with my dad, but Roy Connor came onto the scene before he was born. This means that although my mum thinks that Thomas was definately the father of Martin that it could have been Roy named on the birth certificate. Roy Connor died C:1987. Wow what tangled lives we lead. I hope this helps. Thanks again.
Kate.

I'm sure this will be greatly helpful Kate.  Check back here later this evening/tomorrow morning to see if I've managed to find any more for you.

One small bit of information which I think is a strong possibility for Lloyd - a marriage record I've found for 2000, as follows:

Lloyd Connor
Name: <HLT>Lloyd</HLT> <HLT>Connor</HLT>
Spouse Surname: Chivers
Date of Registration: Jun 2000
Registration district: Bath and North East Somerset
Registration county (inferred): Somerset
Volume Number: 300
Page Number: 546
Register number: RAR

With this being in the Bath district, I'd say this is the correct person.

This is definately my Uncle Lloyd as although he was married to a lady called Lyn, Mum heard that he remarried a Shirley around 2000. Lloyd had two children with Lyn, Stacey and Hayley who were born around the same year as me.

Well, we're on the right track at least!  At the moment I'm trying to find a marriage between Margaret Bruce and Thomas Hughes.  I've searched 1935-1940 but so far found nothing.  I'm wondering if it was never registered - this is possible of course - but it's odd how I'm not finding any of the birth records for any of the four sons - yet!

I'm still working on this so if anything else comes to mind which may help in the search, do please let me know.

Check back regularly.

Hi Kate

I've not forgotten you!  I have been trying to locate a marriage between Thomas Hughes and Margaret Bruce somewhere between 1930 and 1940 but alas I've drawn a blank!

Likewise I've tried to find births records for your dad and uncles but all I've come up with so far is as above - mothers of Morris and Price - I did wonder if the Price could be possible purely because it is quite similar to Bruce.

Sorry I haven't found anything more positive - yet!

Hi Kate

I'm so sorry I've not found more for you on this one.  I had been searching for a marriage record between Margaret Bruce and Thomas Hughes in the relevant area but alas nothing has been forthcoming which is most annoying and very frustrating.

There are times we do seem to get beaten and it feels rather like this is one of them.

Naturally I will continue to look as information is being added to websites all the time but in the meantime my apologies that I've not been more help.
