Well Sandra, I'm not sure how much help, if any, this will be. I've searched through every quarter of each year from 1948 (when Harold was last seen!) up to 1983 which is the latest date that can be searched for records. I've found several Harold or Harry Hoyland deaths but can't be certain which would be correct, if any. There is just one that is possible as the birth year was 1890. I will list below all those I have found. Before I start and at the risk of insulting your intelliegence, bear in mind the following:
JFM is the first quarter in any year, AMJ is the second, JAS the third and OND the last.
OND 1951 - Place of death Lancaster, Age 73 (Harry)
JFM 1957 - Place of death Ashton, Age 45 (Harold)
JAS 1957 - Place of death Oldham, Age 84 (Harry)
OND 1959 - Place of death Aylesbury, Age 74 (Harold A D)
OND 1963 - Place of death Southwell, Age 59 (Harry)
OND 1970 - Date of Birth 4.6.1904 Sheffield (Harold Victor E)
JFM 1971 - Date of Birth 6.7.1909 Rotherham (Harry)
JAS 1971 - Date of Birth 16.8.1903 Western (Harold)
JAS 1971 - Date of Birth 4.5.1896 Barnsley (Harry)
JAS 1971 - Date of Birth about 1896 Sheffield (Harry)
AMJ 1972 - Date of Birth 21.7.1905 Barton (Harry)
JAS 1973 - Date of Birth 13.4.1894 Bexley (Harold Bert)
JAS 1975 - Date of Birth 30.7.1890 Sheffield (Harry)
AMJ 1976 - Date of Birth 17.4.1907 Chesterfield (Harry)
JAS 1977 - Date of Birth 28.1.1903 Oldham (Harold)
OND 1978 - Date of birth 22.5.1896 Rotherham (Harry)
OND 1980 - Date of Birth 4.2.1892 Exexter (Harold)
AMJ 1983 - Date of Birth 19.8.1907 Kensington & Chelsea (Harold)
OND 1983 - Date of Birth 17.2.1927 Leeds (Harold Kay)
There's quite a lot to look through here Sandra and consider - most of which can be dismissed straight away - but one I think you should look closely at is the entry for JAS 1975 - Birth date of 30.7.1890 in Sheffield. The death is registered as Harry but one idea I did have was that it's possible Harold/Harry's birth in 1890 may not have been registered until 1892 - as in the records for births above - particularly the one you feel could be correct.
I'll leave these dates with you to ponder and perhaps you'd let me know how you might like me to help further.
