Hi

I don't know if you handle in research in Australia or not but thought I would submit my enquiry and you can advise me please.

I am looking for the death, well any details if possible on William Allen no middle name known. His marriage certificate says that his parents were William  and Emma or Emily Allen and that he was born in 1893 in Broken Hill.  I have been unable to find any record of his birth, nor can I find any record of his parents, birth, marriage or death.  On his WW2 records he states that he served 2 1/2 years in France in WW1, but no record can be found on this.  He married Caroline Garland in Qld and they had 3 children Pat, Leslie and Nelson.  When the children were only tiny the marriage broke up and the children were put in an orphanage.  The Mother Caroline died in Toowoomba but we can not trace anything on the Father William.

It is thought that William Allen may have died between 1950 and 1965.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Raynecloud3

Hi Mike

William Allen's war service number for WW2 is SRN Q186592 and we have those records and it is in these that he states that he served 2 1/2 years in France in WW1, but we are unable to find any records of him serving in WW1.

Thanks for any advice.

Jenny

Hi Jen,What would have happened he would have been Dispatched to another Regiment. If he Fought in France. My GRANDFATHER was in the Royal Munster Fusiliers. He was Transferred to a Regiment in Worcester And Given a New Number.
The reverse could have happened,This is Maybe why you were unable to find
Normally Military records list any Regiment he would have served in.Via First ww Record index Cards. If he fought in France He would have been issued with Campaigne Medal plus the victory medal.
When he went back to oz.Would  have had Discharge papers. He may have later re enlisted..

Hope you can follow where im Going

Mike
