Pat the reason i asked is in the griffiths valuations,for 1848 there was a Thomas GRACE living in a place called Carmens Hall in the Parish of ST Nicholas

The leesee was The Dean and Chaptor of Christ Church,

He leesed a store and yard it says valued with 4 Spitalfields

If we Have correct Thomas Grace,Then he must have had Some sort of Business Carmens Hall is off Francis Street in Dublin

I have actually contacted St Nicholas church as I knew that Michael and Mary were definately married there and they kindly checked for me and told me that they were married on 21st Sept 1879 and his address was 144, Francis St and hers was 8, Binns Court. Thats how I found out their parents names.

A cousin told me that they thought Marys father had a bellows business, but I dismissed it as I was never told anything about it and as I know that she signed her name on my Granny's birth certificate with a cross I thought that meant that she must have been poor. However it is very interesring what you say about Carmens Hall.

I didn't want to bother Fr Paul again by asking about John and Mary Coghlan and Thomas and Mary Grace but how do I join the Irish family history foundation?

Hi pat If she signed with a Cross it ment she was unable to read or Write.

 

If you Contact Father Paul again Im sure Because he checked the original Doc for you.He would Look for the Others.These Priests are Really nice.

144 francis st is listed as a Recieving house in Piggots Directory.

I honestly dont know what a recieving house is

Now i think A recieving house was a Post office  So its Possible the business was Used for several things

I've been in contact with some cousins to see if they knew any more about our irish connections and one of them said he went to Ireland in 1948 with his parents and grandmother (Michael and Mary's daughter Annie) and they stayed in Sallynoggin, near Dun Laoghaire with relatives, but unfortunately he didnt remember how they were related. He said one cousin was surnamed Coghlan so obviously he was related to Michael. I see that the church there has been replaced so is there any way of finding the records from the old church? In 1948 I believe the church was St Kevins but that was only built in 1927 so I dont know what was there before.

Pat it may be worth contacting the Gro ,To see if they can get you any certs needed.

If the church has been closed,i would think the records would have gone to the nearest church,not sure what denomination they were but take it as Catholic
