Cindy you have given us tons of names but in your eagerness you forgot to add which country or place your James Cain and family were located.

This group while called English and Irish by title actually follows families across the globe.
So it is important that you give us locations. Countries, towns, counties or states etc.

We can take a stab in the dark and go on a wild goose chase when we would rather be on the right track from the start.

Look forward to hearing from you with extra tidbits of information vital for our research and yours.

Research for James Cain & family for TameCindy

Below are the findings of my cyber journey in search of elusive Cains. Looks like maybe he was like his very distant ancestor Cain of biblical fame, took off for places unknown and came back when it suited him.

I have read in an earlier e-mail that George Ingham married an Elizabeth Cain.
This Elizabeth was born in Ireland? And her parents were James and Rebecca we are presently hunting.

Mike tried to find them and located a family going by children’s names in Liverpool.
A Rebecca Cain died in London that may fit.

IGI Individual Record:
John Cain birth circ 1793 of ,,, South Carolina
Parents: Abner Cain & Sarah Townsend
Marriage: abt 1813
Spouse: Rebecca Veal

James McCahan born 1801 ?Derry, Ireland
Death: 1886
Marriage: 19th March 1829 of Red Oak, Montgomery, Iowa
Spouse: Rebecca Gibson
Born 15 Aug 1811.
Died 22 Oct 1901.

I found a load of Cains on Roots Web messageboards Using search : James and Rebecca Cain.
When I time restricted it to 1800s the results were negative strangely.

One in particular stood out at the site, even with the anomalies. Alas, I have not been able to make contact, the mail is returned as undeliverable.

Searches using Seamus, the Irish alternative name for James were done and also substituted Jack for James for I had a step dad who was called Jack but was actually John Seamus.
No luck on Seamus.
John got me the top entry on this page.

It would seem that Cains might have been there but did they flit between the USA and Britain because they could afford to or because of family commitments perhaps?

The following is from Ancestry.com:

Ireland, The Royal Irish Constabulary 1816-1921
about CAIN, JAMES

Name: CAIN, JAMES
Birth Date/Age: 19
Birthplace: Kings
Enlisted: 1846
Film #: 856058
Page #: 123

As you can see I haven't put many things down because the ones here are the closest to dates I got from your information.
There are loads of other individuals listed with the same names but of the few hundred I have gone through today they miss the target for dates or children.

Please if you have certificates could you double check them for middle names. We may be chasing a Rebecca who for legal reasons is actually Elizabeth Rebecca like her daughter.

if you got the information from family ask them if they have any more stories about the family eg was anyone in military, which army etc, was anyone a professional or sea captain etc

Other managers by all means jump in if you have any ideas. I am beginning to think this family were journeymen, gypsies by another name. Never in one place long.

By all means prove me wrong, lol.

Im sorry.....I believe my James Cain came from Ireland, but what part of Ireland I dont know.....and yes George Ingham did marry Elizabeth Cain.  George and Elizabeth(Cain)Ingham were my great-great grandparents, and their oldest child and daughter was Martha who was my great grandmother.

cindy I have contacted 6 people in genes reunited who have James Cain in their trees who was also born in time span you are after.
If you are a member of this you can go in and contact them yourself.
I have asked if they have links to your family and gave them your original message to read minus your name.
If they give me permission to view their trees we may know more.
If they don't then it means you will have to make the contact direct.
There were many more James Cains on this site but not linked to date of birth and Ireland as place of birth.

I will keep you up to date

is there any other information you have on this family or individual.

Other managers by all means if you have ideas jump right in. I will keep digging.
