Hello again Mike, I have just received an email from Ian, he is at the other end of Australia to me but that is okay.
Yes we are both researching the same family and I will put him in touch with other members shortly.
He is right about the ship "Magistrate," I have just received the name of it. I knew that Patrick and Bridget came in  1838 together as husband and wife and their ages.
The big problem is I haven't been able to go back to the next generation of John and Brigdet Carmody.
 I didn't know Patrick's Bridget's maiden name only thought it looked  like McNally for her mother and all she had was Patrick for her father, no surname. What a muddle, all these Patrick's and Bridgets. LOL
