Hello
Iam trying to find parents and siblings of Helena Mary Josephine Fleming born in Cork around 1840. Possible parents may be John Fleming and ?O'Brien. Also looking for parents and siblings of her husband Thomas William Dillon born Offlay around 1833. Possible parents Charles Dillon and Sarah White???.
Iam not sure if they married in Ireland before they left for Australian on "Chatsworth" in 1862 from Liverpool.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Kind regards
Henrietta

Hi Henrietta
I've had a closer look at the census record for 1861 which I posted. Charles is the head of household, Sarah is his wife. George and Mark are their children and Thomas is Charles' brother. Both Thomas and Charles were born in Ireland; Sarah in England and George and Mark in Manchester England. Looks like this is your Thomas living with his brother Charles and his wife.  Charles has obviously been in England for some time.

Henrietta Hi
I have not found birth records for any Helena Flemings, although several exist for Ellen Fleming.  The names Helen, Helena, Ellan and Elinor are all used for the same name - Helen
These are the records held by Cork North and East Genealogy:

Source Surname First Name Year County
Church Baptism Fleming Ellen 1838 Co. Cork
Church Baptism Fleming Ellen 1840 Co. Cork
Church Baptism Fleming Ellen 1842 Co. Cork
Church Baptism Fleming Ellen 1843 Co. Cork
Church Baptism Flimming Ellen 1843 Co. Cork
Church Baptism Fleming Ellen 1844 Co. Cork
Church Baptism Fleming Ellen 1844 Co. Cork
Church Baptism Fleming Ellen 1846 Co. Cork
Church Baptism Fleming Ellen 1846 Co. Cork
Church Baptism Fleming Ellen 1846 Co. Kerry

For Thomas Dillon it has been equally difficult as there are little resources available for Co Offaly.  Because of this I have a look at counties that border Co Offaly. In Co Roscommon I found the following:
Marriage   Dillon, Charles   1817   Co Roscommon
Baptism     Dillon, Charles   1827   Co Roscommon
Baptism     Dillon, Thomas   1835   Co Roscommon
Baptism     Dillon, Thomas   1837   Co Roscommon
Baptism     Dillon, Thomas   1838   Co Roscommon

All of these records are held by the Irish Family History Foundation and can be accessed here:
Registration is free as is searching the indexes.  Once registered just click on the map on the county you wish to search.  If you wish to access a full record the cost is 5 euros.

Hi there Teri,
Thank you for your information on Thomas and Helena. Will certainly take a look at the site you suggest.
We are trying to find the book at the moment on the "Chatsworth" which has the list of passengers to see if Helena and Charles were married before coming to Australia. There doesn't appear to be a marriage here in Australia that we can find.
Thanks again your help is very much appreciated.
Regards
Henrietta

Hi Henrietta
I have searched both Ireland and England (because Thomas may be the one in 1861 census in Liverpool) for a marriage record for Thomas and Helena to no avail.  I've also been looking at passenger lists for 1862 but that's drawn a blank too.  However, I think I may have located where you can get the book you mentioned. It appears to be available from Gould Genealogy -

This link should take you directly to the page about the book.
Cheers
Teri

HI again Henrietta
The book also appears to be available in the Redcliffe Library in Queensland, if you live anywhere near there.
Cheers

Hi there Teri,
Thank you for that site. I may have to go the way of buying the book. Redcliffe is a bit to far away ...  700km.
Thank you so much for your continued help. It is very much appreciated.

 Regards
Henrietta

Hi Henrietta
I was thinking that maybe before you spend money buying the book on the Chatsworth that it might be worth your while joining the msn group for austalia -
this group is run by  Liz who is only too happy to help anyone with their Australian search. It may be that one of the members of her site already has the book or can access the passenger list. Liz would also be able to see if she can find a marriage for Thomas and Helena in Australia. Meanwhile I'll continue searching here.
Cheers
Teri

HI there Teri,
Thank You so much for the Australian Surname site. It proved to be very helpful indeed.
From the information on the "Chatsworth"
Thomas and Helena were on there under the name Dillon but both were listed as single.
I was also given another page of a person who was doing this side of the tree 4 years ago. They have Thomas William Dillon born c 1833 Kings Co. marrying Helen Mary Josephine Fleming c1860-1862 possible in Cork. Thomas parents are down as Charles Dillon and Sarah White.
I will check these out.
Thank you so much for all your help. You are all doing a wonderful job and it is much appreciated.
Regards
Henrietta

Hi, sorry I don't know how to send a private message but I wondered if your Flemings may be related to mine. Mine came from Cork Ireland, my 3rd Ggrandfather was a John Fleming born in 1833 in Cork, Ireland his father was John Fleming born about 1805, wife was probably Jane Gorman, as her parents  also witnessed John(b.1833) marriage certificate here in Sydney, Australia... obviously John was out here by then, he came to Aust. in about 1849(give or take 2 years). This a line I am working on, apparently there was a lady amassed quite a bit of Fleming information and had it sent to one of the local genealogy societies I think in Sydney, haven't got my notes with me atm. So, jot sure if this is the same family of Flemings, but maybe a connection?

Regards,

Adele
