Hi Debs,
It really depends when abouts you are looking. If you are looking after 1855 then Scotlands people is probably best but if it is in the OPR's that you need to look there are other sites available which are free and could be useful. I have a lot of Scottish Ancestry and have managed to get further back on that line than most. If you let me know details of the approx year I might be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi I have mailed Debs  and she sent this Message that might help

Mike

hi
thanks for this but i have no way to find out which one suits
all i know is that jane frazer married john porter in angus scotland the date is unknown
they are my great great grandparents they moved to south africa when ? and had my great grandmother in 1882 plus 5 other girls i know their names  well maiden names any way
i know that john low porter was born in the glenisla area about 1851 and his  parents are from forfar scotland and have their names
but all i have for jane frazer is her name no dates or birth place
my great grandmother had 3 children in south Africa before coming to australia i am looking into the south African connection
but if i can get the Scottish side it would be great
some of my grandmothers sister's middle names are lamont and Creswell and knowing that the maiden names of parent are used maybe that can help as well

as i said before thank you for taking the time to look  i have tried the igi family search and no luck also tried ancestry .com.uk and scots people there are 251 entries for jane frazer
i will keep trying my end
cheers
have agood day

I am still looking to see what I can find for you.
I think that I have found John Low Porter on the 1861 and 1871 census . If this is the correct John he was single in 1871. If they married in Scotland it would be after 1871 and would be available on Scotlands People.

hi
thanks for your help so far we may have norrowed down her birth year assuming she was about 21 when she had her first child in 1882 which would make her birth year around 1860 in the Dundee area
she may have married in south africa as thats where firat baby was born
i am asking the cape colony BDM see if any thing there
we have found her husbands details of his death there in south africa and his death cert is not much help just list her name as jane porter nee Frazer from Dundee scotland
cheers
Debbs
