I woulld like some help to find more information about my Great Grandfather. His surname was GOALEY, but I have found many variations to this
e.g. GOLY on his marriage certificate; GOULDY on 1861 census; GAWLEY on the 1871 census; GOURLEY on the 1881 census; GEALEY on the 1891 census and GOLEY on 1901 census.
He was born  c1836 in Ireland
He married Margaret Coxon on 14th Ocotber 1857 in St Cuthberts Chapel Durham.  Roman Catholic ceremony. His father was also called John and was an agricultural labourer. Margarets father was called Thomas Coxon also agricultural labourer
Johns occupation was Mason's Labourer
John and Margaret had 7 children as far as I know
Margaret born circa1861,Catherine born 1863, Ellen born c1866, John born c1868, William born c8170, Mary born c1874, and James born 1877 ( James was my Grandfather)
All the information I have shows that John and Margaret lived in Durham, in the parish of Framwellgate Moor.

I am interested in finding out anything about John (Great Grandfather) but I have no idea if he had siblings, or when he came across from Ireland. I would be very grateful for any further information.
Cheers
Maureen

Hi Mike

I have had great difficulty getting on site, so Marian is posting my replies to you here.

Message 2
I think this John Gourley might be the one I'm asking about, but he is married to Catherine McCall, so don't think it can be.
Message 3
Could this John Gourely b1786c, be my G.G.Grandfather?
Message 4 This matches with what I have.
Message 5
This is very useful, it gves me the exact birth dates GREAT!
Message 6 Not sure about these.
Message 7 Again useful info.
Thank you.
Is it possible to get any more info about the John Gourley b1786?
Thanks again
Maureen

Maureen - The only way we can find out if this is your John Gourley is to join the Irish Family History Foundation and purchase the document.  There is no other way of finding out.
For now, ignore The Catherine McCall record.  I sent this because it was the right year.

Ref Message 6, I only added in case of further links to Family.

Mike

Hi Mike

I'm interested in the Irish Family History Foundation, can you give me more details of how to  register and purchase the record please. Also do you know if there were any records anywhere for a John Gourley with a different spelling?
Many thanks
Maureen

Hi Maureen

This is the IFHF site.  I think you will find it all self-explanatory.  It takes you through the steps to join up.  Then you can do a search for your ancestor and see what comes up.
