Greetings!

I'm looking for a birth record on Daniel Gallagher/Gallaher b. abt. 1841/42 in Ireland. Unfortunately, the only area I have so far is from a difficult to read 1881 England census record which lists his origins as Ascra Town, Ireland.

His parents should be listed as Peter Gallagher (plasterer) & Mary Hutchinson. His siblings are listed as Peter (who would be my gr-gr-grandfather), Mary, Catherine, and an older brother Michael, all born in Ireland. All the sons occupations are plasterers or painters. This document is vital to the confirmation of this particular family linking to my own Peter Gallagher, whose mother I have proved to be Mary Hutchinson thru his birth certificate. The last known address of Daniel is in the 1901 England Census showing his family at 172 Hatfield Rd., Bolton, Lancashire.

I've looked thru all my resources, and have a habit of not wanting to pay for viewing information I can be 100% sure is what I need. Any help or points in the right directions is appreciated.

Thanks so much,

Barbara

Boy oh Boy Barbara That is a Dilemma,I checked out Various Names and Found a few Possibilites

Achill,
 Adare
Ardara This is nearest to Ascra ITS IN DONEGAL, I think
Arklow
Athboy
Annagh
Now as Daniel was Born about 1842 I checked out Mary HUTCHINSON

Church Marriage Hutchinson Mary 1837 Co. Down
Church Marriage Hutchison Mary 1840 Co. Antrim
Church Marriage Hutchinson Mary 1841 Co. Kilkenny
I THINK THESE ARE THE 3 possibilities
but just cannot be sure as i cant match Peter to them
Antrim Town seems more likely as Antrim can link to a few Parishes.
i think if Daniel  can be found via the 1871 census,it may make things clearer

Hi Barbara Hopefully you will have recieved the 1861 Doc and the 1871.UNFORTUNATELY they dont give us any more info as to where in Ireland Daniel was Born. What we do know is His parents were Here in Liverpool.
So we are still on Square one,As they could be any of the Listed ones.
If you can Find anything on the Docs that may help. Im only to willing to Help.
Kay kindly searched for these Census for you.

Barbara i did find some sort of link in the Griffiths Registrations But it may prove hard to link. There are places Called Achill and Aglish in county Mayo. There was a Peter Gallagher living in that area about 1848.So i checked Mayo further
and Found a Wesleyen  minister by the name of the Reverend James Hutchinson .
Church EDUCATION SOCIETY SCHOOL HOUSE
WESLEYEN METHODIST MEETING HOUSE
HOUSE LAND AND COUNTY INFERMARY
LAND OWNED BY THE EARL OF LUCAN
Working with him at this place was an Agnes Gallagher.
Now it may just be Coincidence these two names are linked. But i must say Both these Names may fit in with the one from the 1881 census

Mike,

I have Daniel and his family from the '51 thru 1901 census'. And you're correct, they really don't offer any more info that I've given you or that you've discovered.

I did obtain, from a possible Gallagher cousin, who is also looking to link Peter to Daniel, a marriage certificate for Daniel and Ann Brown. It has them living at 27 Castle St, Kirkland & 29 Castle St, Kirkland, respectively. Daniel's father, Peter Gallaher, plasterer & Ann's father, John Brown, Farmer. Married at St. Mary's in Kirkdale in the parish of Walton-on-the-Hill, Lancaster, on Aug. 20, 1865

Mary Hutchinson is definately my gr-gr-grandfather Peter's mother. I'm trying to link Daniel with this Peter, as brother's.

The 1861 census listing has a family whose details are so close to what I have for Peter it is most surely a match. But I need a BC of at least one of the siblings to prove it 100%. This is where I'm brickwalled.

Thanks for all your help. It is most appreciated.

Barbara
