WILLIAM JEFFERSON 1832 born in Seaton Deleval, Northumberland. He was a widower at 24 when he married Isabella. He had a three year old child, ALICE, who had been born in Skulklil, Pennsylvania. Willliam and his father, (also named William), were miners. He married ISBELLA SLEVIN 1828 born in Fintona, Tyrone, Ireland. Their children were WILLIAM Jefferson 1856 JOHN Jefferson 1860 ROSANNE Jefferson 1861 ISABELLA Jefferson 1863 BERNARD Jefferson 1864 MICHAEL Jefferson 1868 The family inherited a substantial amount of money on the death of a brother of Isabella's in 1883. We have been able to document the family in some detail up to the Census of 1881 but after that the only individual to be recorded is the youngest child Michael who is listed up to the 1901 census. We wondered whether the family had emigrated after they received their legacy. Could William have wanted to have another try at life in America - this time with money to help him get established? We have tried to track them without success and would welcome your advice about possible ways of tackling the problem of finding them when they seem to have disappeared without trace! Thank you for all your help in the past. - Maureen | |

Thank you so much Marian and Mike for the wealth of information you have provided on this branch of my family. They genuinely had seemed lost without trace and yet in no time at all you have managed to provide detailed Census information, as well as tracing the deaths of two of Isabella and William's teenage children, together with a possible date of death for William himself in 1885. The marriage records which seem to fit the family details are going to prove invaluable. We were very interested in your suggestion that Isabella might have remarried and that this could be a reason that she was proving difficult to locate. Thanks for suggesting possible dates for this too. So between you, you have collected information about possible dates for birhts, marriages and deaths that is completely new to us and is going to help us in our search for proof of what happened to these people. With grateful thanks from Maureen |
