Peter was born about 1822 in Co. Carlow.  Came to US, settled in Wilmington, Delaware.  Married Catherine Fahey, in Wilmington. Peter died in 1898.

Hi MBJ

I am just beginning your search.  Can you give us any more info please, names and dates?  When did Peter emigrate from Ireland?  The more details you can give us, the better we can help you.

In the meantime, have you seen the Kavanaugh family crest?

Marian

Marian,

There were 2 Peter Kavanaughs in Wilmington, DE  at the time, plus the name is spelled so many ways, so it's tough to tell for sure who is who.  I found an 1853 emigration record (Tuscarora) that comes close to matching other information.  I am confident he was born in Co Carlow, from church records when his children were christened.  He married in DE in 1861, children  included:

Mary Ann (1862)
Thomas (1865) died young
Thomas (1867)
Catherine (1871)
Jospeh (1874)
Hanna (1875)
Edward (1876)

Thank you.

Hi MBJ

Mike has been helping me over the last few days.  There are seven people on this Rootsweb site below who are working on their Kavanagh family trees --

They are all Kavanaghs from Co. Carlow, but spelt without the U.

More messages to follow......

Mike found this burial record in Wilmington.  Looks like it could have been the first Thomas.

Will you let me Know if you think this is Correct

Mike,

Thanks for the info.  I will follow up with the folks registered on Rootsweb.  I am familiar with the Lalley site.  It's great for anyone whose people passed through Wilmington.  Most of their data comes from Catholic church records, which I have also studied.  In the 1880 census, the family was listed as Cavender.

I have recorded some birth, marriage and death data for the Kavanaugh/Cavanaugh family.  If any Kavanaugh group  members have Delaware roots, I can try to help.
