| I am trying to find information on a Dr James and Elizabeth Ann Leahy my GGG Grandparents their daughter Henrietta Mathilda Leahy was my GG Grandmother. I believe they were from tipperary ireland.I have heard that they came to Australia early 1860's Henrietta married Thomas Lister and stayed there but soon after settling in Aus her mother died and her father James packed up with the younger children and moved back to Ireland.Thats all I know of this family. I wonder whether you have any information on her daughters spouse, Dr James Leahy of his ancestors? Comments: The information you have gathered looks to be well researched. I will be spending more time at your site. I have not been to Co Wexford but plan to go there one day in the next two or three years. Dr James Leahy who married Catherine Langford's daughter Elizabeth Ann on 4/7 1829 has us baffled as to his parents and ancestry. I wonder whether you have any information at all. He and Elizabeth Ann came to Australia in 1874 when past the priome of life. They are buried at Meridith cemetry, Victoria, Australia. |

I was talking to Nancye Kent Perry last night and she asked to be remembered to you. She is 85 and in hospital after a fall, but very alert and still very enthusiastic about family history.

Dear Lester, Thank you for your prompt reply to my email. You certainly know a lot about our family already but I can fill in some gaps for you. Yes we do live in Australia. James Leahy and his wife Elizabeth Ann (nee Langford) whose mother was Catherine Hartrick sailed to Australia in 1865. We think they emigrated because one of their daughters had caused a great scandal in Ireland by running off with a married man. I have the details of the court case as reported in the Dublin newspapers. James Leahy was a surgeon and it seems that he worked his passage out to Australia as ship's surgeon. He died in 1870 and Elizabeth in 1873. You are right about the witness to her death. It was her daughter Elizabeth who was by then Elizabeth Sides. Peter's father Robert Lindsay Taylor was indeed a judge of the NSW supreme court and became chief judge in common law. Peter's full name is Peter John Lindsay Taylor and he was born 25 July 1940. His brother is Drayton Robert Lindsay Taylor. Peter was a barrister but is now an anglican clergyman. My name is Judith May Taylor (nee Beckenham). My birthdate is 28 October 1942. We married on 19 December 1964 and we have four children. David John Lindsay born 15 March 1967
