Hi
I'm new to your group and would appreciate any advise or information.
I have traced back to my 3 x great grandparents .
They were David Lynch 1794-1871 and Eleanor Francis Babbington 1798 - 1874.
Both are buried in Phillips Park Cemetery, Manchester.
I would love to find their marriage and details of their parents and or siblings.
I don't know if they married in England or Ireland but I'm guessing it was around 1819 - 1820
Davids headstone revealed he had fought in the Peninsular Wars with the 83rd regiment of the foot 1810 - 1814.
I believe both were born in Ireland possibly Dublin ( Info from 1851 Census) and their children were born in England from 1821. They were Catholic
Their children were - Ellenor 1821-????, David George 1823-1900 (my great great grandfather), Elizabeth 1824 - 1872, Patrick 1826 - 1882, Thomas 1826 - 1867, John Hastings 1830 - 1880 and Andrew 1835 -1893.
David worked as a weaver.
I hope this is enough although I have a bit more if it would help
Thanks for taking the time to read this

Hi again Mike
I was re-reading some of the posts and was looking more closely at the Griffiths valuation post.
Family legend was that my great great grandfather was somehow "royalty".......something about the Earl of Babbington. I had dismissed the entire story as fanciful but maybe his mothers family were landowners or had previosly been titled and things were embelished by various family members over the years.
I find your information very interesting as some of David and Eleanors grandchildren are listed as Irish born and their siblings English, so they must have travelled back and forth .

Terese Sometimes little snippets of Info are handed down generation after generation.I totally agree sometimes fiction. But this case i think as the Babbington were Gentry. It could well be fact.Eleanor could well have been born in England .
There were a lot of Gentry living around Cork area.So dont be to Surprised if  a record turns up there. For Some reason They chose places like Cork,Dublin,Even Limerick. Most were Landholders.

Hi Mike
In the 1851 English census both David and Eleanor gave Dublin as their place of birth. Also David was in the 83rd Regiment of the Foot 2nd battalion , in about 1809 -which was a Dublin raised unit .
In the Griffths Valuation both Lynch and Babbingtons appear in Dublin and when I looked at a map they were only a few blocks apart so this may well indicate that the families knew each other.
Also the name Thomas continues throught the Lynch family- maybe it was handed down from Eleanor.
I would love to work out more - any suggestions on where I should look. I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to the availability of Irish records etc.
I really appreciate your help its given me fresh hope that I may be able to continue delving back through these families

My suggestion,Dublin Heritage have a site it may be worth contacting them.Ok lets forget David in Cork.Look at it he was born in Dublin.
Contacting The churches of Dublin is an almighty task as one Member searching For Keatings Found out .Lynch will be Harder. But Babbington will be easier.
First Contact the Libraries,And get an area More so for the Regiment. If as you said you found in Griffiths .Start with those Areas.Find the Church or Churches And Contact. One may throw up a Baptism Or Marriage.
Ill try and help as much as i can. With the Churches

Hi Mike
This is the original David and Eleanors Grandson fom their son John.
David and Eleanor also had a son David George (he was my great great grandfather) who had a son David James ( my great grandfather) who had a son David Henry( he was my grandfathers elder brother). We didn't know about David Henry 's existence until I started this research.
It appears that the name David was given to the eldest son of each childs new family.......dozens of David Lynch's in the Manchester region !!!!
Thanks for your ongoing interest
Terese
