Hi Paul

This is Kay and I will see if I can help you trace your ancestor.  I've looked for births of Catherine Lannon (and variations on that spelling) and the only one near to Mayo is as follows:

Catherine <Lanon> Pedigree
  Female

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening:
08 JAN 1845   Roman Catholic, Strokestown, Roscommon, Ireland
Death:
Burial:

Parents:
  Father:  Michael Lanon Family
  Mother:  Winefred McIntyre

Roscommon is towards the central part of Ireland really but close to the west side.

There are other entries around that time but not in the correct part of the country.  One is in Waterford (Southern Ireland) and the other simply states a birth of circa 1845 Ireland - not much help!

This is the nearest one I could find - what do you think?  Happy to trace Michael Lanon (variations) and Winefred if you think this might help.

Hi again Paul

Mike has found some information coming through the Fantry line, regarding Lannon.  I can't be certain we have the same parents for Mary as would be for Catherine but Mike feels certain about this.  I'll post the information he's found anyway but without any actual birth record stating Catherine's parents, I do hold a question mark over this:

MARY LANNEN Pedigree

Female Family

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Event(s):

Birth:

Christening:

Death:

Burial:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Parents:

Father: MICHAEL LANNEN Family

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Marriages:

Spouse: JOHN MURRAY Family

Marriage: 08 FEB 1864 146, Park In Turlough, Mayo, Ireland

JOHN1 FANTRY was born Abt. 1845. He married CATHERINE LANNON 18 Jan 1863

in Turlough / Parke Mayo Ireland. She was born Abt. 1845

I hope this helps.

Kay,
many thanks for the additional information. It seems to me that the ancestors I'm looking for all seem to be coming from Turlough, Mayo or thereabouts. It seems very plausible then that Catherine and Mary could have been sisters or perhaps cousins. Ive not been to Ireland but have looked at the various addresses on Google earth and they all seem very close to each other, so there must be a relationship there.

many thanks for your help with this.
Paul

Yes, that was the reason I was hesitant that we'd found Catherine's parents - she could have been a cousin of Mary - if I find an actual birth record for her though, I will naturally post it for you.
