Hello My great grand-father - George B Lloyd - according to his death certificate was born "Hollywell, Wales", and in Australian colonies or states - 50 years in NSW. His name is listed as George Bowring Lloyd. He married Mary Hunter Mitchell in NSW 1872 - no age or birth listed on marriage certificate. His occupation states "mariner". My dilemma is that I think I've located the right person - 1861 & 1871 Wales census - but I can find no record of his emigration to Australia.. Can anyone help out please? Ronlynn | |

Hello I will see what I can do to help. I found George B. Lloyd on the 1861 census age 6 and born Holywell, Flintshire, Wales. Is he definitely your George Bowring Lloyd? If so, he was born c1854/5. I need to know his approx. year of birth before proceeding further. Marian Manager |

Hello again In the 1871 census I found two possibilities: George Brown Lloyd age 16 occupation Pupil Teacher born Holywell, with parents John (occupation Sawer) and Elizabeth, siblings Edith and Maria. George B Lloyd age 14 born Llandudno (not far from Holywell), with mother listed as Elizabeth Thomas, minister's wife, and siblings (can't read name, but female) Lloyd age 15, James B. Lloyd, Maria Thomas 6, William Thomas 4, Mary Elizabeth Thomas 2, Sarah Thomas 1 month. I am just wondering if you are certain that his middle name was Bowring? Marian Manager |

Hi Marian Thank yuo so much for trying to help. I'm sorry but i have very little information, that's what has been so frustrating in the past. It is only stated on his death cert the middle name "Bowring", on his marriage cert no middle name. He was 22 when married 14 June 1872, and 70 when died 23 April 1920. There is no certainty that his middle name was Bowring, but it is an unusual name. That;s why I thought the George Brown Lloyd was him but he still shows up in Census records in 1871, yet he married in NSW 1872. Ronlynn |

Hi Marian Thank you to both yourself and Mike :-) I have another lead, there is a possibility that George's mother's maiden name may have been Bowring - this information came indirectly to me from another family member researching same line but have no confirmation ! Also do you have any suggestions of where to look for crew lists for ships coming to Australia? Thank you once again Ronlynn |

Hi Ronlynn I had considered that possibility, that his mother was BOWRING, but unfortunately haven't found anything further as yet. I will keep searching for you and post any findings as usual. Marian Manager |

Thanks Marian, I appreciate your continued help when you can. I've recently made contact with another great grand-daughter of George Lloyd, her father was Thomas Lloyd, and she believes that George's wife was Elizabeth (nee Bowring) but as yet I haven't been able to find a connection in any of the Wales census records. I will pass on any further details that may be further help. Thanks again Ronlynn |
