Hi Suzy

Looking at the image which you sent, it looks like the place of birth of Kennedy O'Brien's daughter Mary is Gortnaskagh in the parish of Kilcullane, Co. Limerick.
The only other possibility is Gorteenaskagh in the parish of Caherconlish, Co. Limerick. Very similar townland names!

Hope this is helpful.  I will post anything more that I might find for you on here.

Kind regards

Marian

Hi Suzy

I have found the parish!!!  It is the parish of MURROE and BOHER.  Boher was the name on your cert.  If you click on this link you will see from the RC parish map of County Limerick that it is adjacent to Caherconlish parish.

Thanks Marion had a look at the map. You have better search skills I tried for Parish map over last week from various sources but didn't come up with that one.
It certainly is clear for names and with the other County so close the possibility of boundary changes comes to mind thus making the place in one county one century and another later on.

If O'Briens were R/C in Ireland they don't seem to have followed that road in Australia.
Catherine and Donald McDonald married in a Registry Office in Melbourne in 1865 and according to both death certificates they each came out only a year or two before being married.

So I tried to find them both on same ship eg Highland migrant ship the Hercules and others but couldn't so figured they came separately.

I am not too positive about finding a family with the names of my lot. Kennedy O'Brien is an unusual a name over here for that time but not back there in Ireland.
I can hope that like my Donald Mcdonald who was born on North Uist along with thousands of others that the mothers name is unusual enough to make a difference.

I won't hold my breath though,lol.
Thanks for the finds to date.
Suzanne

To date I am unaware that Kennedy O'Brien or his wife Catherine (nee) Hayes did actually emigrate here to Australia at all.
I have so far know of the following of his children who came here:
  • Catherine O'Brien b. abt 1844 .  married Donald McDonald, Melbourne Victoria, April 10, 1865.
  • Thomas O'Brien Born abt 1827- died 1877 in Benalla Victoria Ausralia. No family.
  • Mary O'Brien b. abt 1840 - died 1890 at her sister Catherines Melbourne home in Fitzroy suburb. She was then wife of William Skelton and death cert states no children.
