From: rjc02601 (Original Message) | Sent: 2007/02/28 12:53 AM | Hi am trying to find information on my great-grandmother Catherine M. O'Connor, born 1868 in the Barracks of Fermoy, Co. Cork, Ireland, her father, name unknown, was an Irishman who served in the British Army. Catherine emigrated to the US on the ship "Servia" to NY on June 9 1884. Her parents and siblings names unknown. Catherine married James Langley sometime between 1884-1904 and had 6 children, 4 of whom died very young, only my grandmother Eileen M. Langley and her sister Ruth A. Langley survived. James and Catherine were married and lived somewhere in South Boston, MA until their deaths sometime in the 1930's or 1940's, most likely in the 20's or 30's. James was a fisherman originally from Nova Scotia, Catherine worked in the household of a very wealthy family in Milton, MA. ANY info would be greatly appreciated. Don't know anything about the O'Connor side other than that, and that someone in that family won the Victoria Cross during the First or Second Boer War. Thanks! | |

Kate, this could be very well the same James Langley. He was definitely a fisherman from Nova Scotia though we have no other information on him. He was born around 1856-1857 but seemed to move to US at a young age. I'm hoping that this might indeed be him... Is he a relation to you or was it something you ran across?
Many thanks, and if you have anythign more on this please let me know! THanks! |

Hi Rob I cannot take the credit for finding that info for you -- it was my fellow manager Fran who found it. She is a whiz! However, I am hoping to be able to visit the church in Oughterard for you when I get a chance, to see what I can come up with for you. So here's hoping. Marian aka Connemara Kate |

Hi Marian, please relay my utmost thanks to Fran for this information. James also had an older brother William who I updated some info in Oughterard on the Surname C page under Conneely that the County Galway Archives archivist Patria McWalter supplied me, it's a lead at least (she's a darling). Question on this Langley information, it looks like the info is split into two different sources...is the latter an 1870 census and what would the first paragraph source be from? |

Hi Fran, thanks for the info....but if I'm reading this right, he was married in the 1840's and didn't have my g-grandmother Catherine until 1868...but perhaps his son did? Or could be another relative or some such...drat, I wish they'd given more information on him! hehe Thanks. |
