Rayne,  Do you know which state this Clive OBRIEN was born in?

If so I could check his birth record for futher details

All the indexes for each state are separate so it would save a lot of searching if you knew where he was born

Clive was born in Queensland Australia 1908. 

 

I am finding this family very confusing as Ellen O'Brien appears to be the daughter of  a Maurice O'Brien and Mary O'Leary who came to Australia, I have no details of this, Ellen appears to have been born 29.3.1875 Kerry Ireland.  This could be completely wrong, I may have the wrong Ellen.

 

In Queensland I have found Ellen to be the Mother of Ivy Isabel O'Brien who married Austin Ferrick and this ties in with the fact that Clive was thought to have lived with his sister, a Mrs. Ferrick, for some years.

 

Ellen appears to have had

Ivy Isabel in 1902

Ronald 1907

Clive 1908 

 Irene Sharp O'Brien in 1914

 

These children have Ellen O'brien listed as their Mother, their surname is O'Brien and there is no Father listed for any.  Maybe she was an unwed Mother for 1 child, perhaps 2 children, but 4 children.

 

What are your thoughts.

Rayne Cloud,  There are actually give births listed to OBRIEN with no fathers and mother ELLEN in queensland

Irene Sharp OBRIEN 1914

Ivy Isabel OBRIEN 1902

Leslie OBRIEN 1898

Clive OBRIEN 1908

Ronald OBRIEN 1907

there is no way of knowing if all of these are for the same mother as there could well have been two Ellen OBRIENs however I have come across this number of children born before marriage in the past so not impossible

The only way to find out is to get Ellens death certificate and hope her children are listed

Do you know anything else about her, if she married and where she died?

Have you checked the immigration index for their arrival in queensland?

Rayne Cloud,  As Clive OBRIEN b. 1908 seems to be the last one if you get a copy of his birth certificate it would have any previous children listed to his mother and possibly more details about Ellen if you are lucky

This would solve your problem if all of them belong to the same mother as Clive

Not sure if I read your query correctly - do you mean the parents Maurice & Mary also came to australia or just Ellen?

I know their marriage and Ellens birth is listed on the family search site www.familysearch.org/

but you would have to be sure that Maurice & Mary were your Ellens parents as they could be another couple altogether

Maurice O'Brien and his wife Mary O'brien both died in Qld  Maurice is listed in the Qld BDM's as having died 1896 Qld born in Ireland.  Mary is listed as D. 1915 Qld aged 56years.  Ellen is listed as d. 1927 Qld.

 

Ellen in the Lds site was listed as having been born to parents Maurice and Mary 29.3.1875 Kerry Ireland  On Clive's birth certificate she was listed as having come from Tralee Kerry Co Ireland and there was also a sister Ivy Isabel listed as having been born in 1902.

 

So I am assuming that Ellen born 1875 and Ellen the parents of Irene, Ivy, Ronald and Clive, is one and the same.  What are your thoughts. How can I find out when they came to Australia and to where they came.  Is there anywhere online.  It would have had to have been before 1896 when Maurice died in Qld.

Raynecloud,   The immigration indexes are online for queensland, NSW and victoria and some early south australia

There is a Maurice OBRIEN arriving in queensland on 28.11.1876 aged 28 on ship Scottish Hero but is seems that Ellen & Mary are not listed on this voyage

It was common for the father to arrive earlier and set up a home and check the place out before the rest of the family arrived.

He is the only Maurice Obrien listed as an assisted immigrant but the family may have paid their own way and then they would not be on this index  Maybe the queensland state archives have records of unassisted immigrants to queensland

The Marriage of Maurice W OBrien to Mary Oleary took place in Killarney co Kerry in june 1856.As Ellen was born in 1875 There a 19 yr Gap.If you look on a Map Tralee is about 15 Mile away.So it is a Possibility its Correct.

I have Run a parent check in the igi .The only child it lists is Ellen Born 1875.

As there was a 19yr Gap i would have expected other Children to be Listed..

There was one other Marriage listed in IGI ,Maurice OBrien to Mary Daly in Listowel Marriage:  03 NOV 1866   Listowel, Kerry, Ireland
 Listowel is about 40 miles from Tralee.

Jenny one thing i know there were a lot Of OBrien Families in and Around  Limerick Near to the Borders of Kerry.In the igi the is also a Maurice Married a Julia  leary In Killorgan .Now that Town Borders Limerick.
