Jane Rogers is seen in the 1841 census of Liverpool at the age of 35 born Ireland with Emily 13 and Benjamin 7.

I have Benjamin's birth record (Liverpool)which gives Jane and John Rogers - mariner as his parents.

The census shows that Emily was also born in Ireland.

I have found nothing for John Rogers and cant find out where in Ireland the family is from.

In 1851 census Jane is a Widow. There are too many John Rogers who died between 1841 and 1851 to get all the certs.

Have you any ideas how I can find out where in Ireland the family came from?

I have tried to find a marriage for Emily but have had no luck.

Thanks

Please let me know what you think.  You  did not say if your Rogers are related to Wards, in which case they are porbably from the North of Ireland.  If so, it might make our searching easier since it narrows down to 6 counties instead of 32!

Thank you.

Yes, Benjamin Rogers married Sarah Ward in 1861. I have seen that marriage before but the family were Roman Catholic and I believe that is a church of Ireland. They are burried in a Roman Catholic grave yard.

I would be open to your views though as it does get confusing.

So which of the John and Jane Rogers marriages is the correct one?

Please give us all the info you have, as it would save time searching for info you have already got.

Who exactly is buried in a Catholic graveyard?  Is it Benjamin and Sarah Ward?  Or John and Jane Rogers?

Where is the graveyard?  Is it in Belfast?

I dont know which marriage is the right one - sorry - thats why I have asked for help. I dont know Jane's maiden name. All I know is she was born in Ireland and was in Liverpool 1841 and that's where Benjamin was born. Emily was born in Ireland (dau) and I had hoped to find a baptism for her at the same church her mum and dad married.

Benjamin and Sarah Rogers are buried in st peter and Paul  church in Liverpool.

I am sorry if I have confused you.

I have just found another marriage:

Rogers John    Jane Maines 1823 m Armagh.

Maybe these two names are just to popular to ever find the right one unless I can tie Emily (dau) into the same place.

What do you think? I could really do with your advice.

Hi Ghiana

We need to get Benjamin's or Emily's birth / baptism certificate first of all, so as to establish Jane's maiden name.  Did they have any other children?  Sometimes you will find that the mother's maiden name is on one child's cert. and not on another.

Without that information, and not knowing where they were from in Ireland, I am afraid that searching for Jane will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Thanks for your patience with me.

I have Benjamin's birth record. He was baptised  St Peter Liverpool 26 April 1833. No maiden name. Emily was older than him.

I suppose that's the end of the line then?

Hi Ghiana

Well, it's too far back for civil records, so the only way now is by church records.  Certainly you should try the parish churches for Emily's baptism cert (which I presume you don't have) and also of course John and Jane's marriage cert.  As you say, probably one and the same church.

Rosemary Street Church, Belfast is Presbyterian.

Derrykeene, Armagh seems to be a misspelling.  It should read either Derrykeeran or Derrykeevan, both of which are in the parish of Tartaraghan.  Or Derrykerran, in the parish of Drumcree.  All three townlands are in the same general area.

Let me know how you get on.

Yes, we do need a lot of patience in finding those elusive ancestors.

Marian
