Looking for David Torbitt born 1881 Ireland he married Georgina Hope born 1874 in St Anthony Northumberland in Newcastle upon Tyne Dec 1905 David died June 1909 in Newcastle on Tyne.

No idea what part of Ireland David came from but it is believed to be Northern

Thanks
Fran

No problem Fran

I will be having a look at this one later on this evening, all being well, and will see what I can dig up for you.

Got onto it quicker than I thought!

Here's what I've found - hope it fits.

David Torbitt born 31 October 1880, Ahoyhill, Antrim to parents:

David Torbitt and Jane Mooney Torbitt.

He had a sister Maggie Torbitt born 13 January 1879, Lemnahany, Antrim.

I have found an entry on the 1891 census for the family but no mention of sister Maggie.  They are residing at 7 Railway Place, Elswick, Newcastle.  As follows:

Jane - head (widow) - 1856 Ireland
Jane - daughter - 1875 - Ireland - image looks like Domestic Servant
Sarah A - daughter - 1877 - Ireland - machinist
David - as above
Samuel - son - 1883 - Ireland
Ann - daughter - 1886 - Newcastle Upon Tyne
Helen A - daughter - 1891 - Newcastle Upon Tyne

I'll have another dig about later on and see if anything more arises for you.

Just found a death record for Jane Torbitt (David's mother).  It is 1893 in Newcastle Upon Tyne, age 40 which in fact means her birth year would have been 1853 - gives a slightly more precise calculation!

Also one for Samuel - 1901 in Newcastle Upon Tyne age 19 so birth year of 1882.

Will keep digging!

David Torbitt b: 1880 married in 1905 (and you would know this better than me I think as it's more up to date) either Annie Louisa Forster or Georgina Hope.  I've found a birth record for an Elizabeth Jane 1906 Newcastle which would fit with the fact David's mother was Jane.

There is also a record for a child age 1 year called David who died in 1909, Newcastle, but what is odd is that I can't find his birth record.  This seems a strong possibility though as it looks as though he was named after his father, naturally.

Sarah's middle name was Agnes and I've found she married in Newcastle in 1898 - can't find her spouse at the moment though.

Sorry all these entries are in dribs and drabs - just as I've found the info.

David Torbit born 1858 died in the March quarter of 1890 in Newcastle age 32.

For Jane b: 1875 there is a marriage record but she is listed as TORBIT.  Year is 1891, Newcastle and the spouses showing are either Thomas James Irwin or Thomas James Read.  So far I can't locate Jane with either surname on the 1901 census but will continue to look of course.

Another thought was TARBITT as a mistranscription and for a Helena (rather than Helen A) there is a record of marriage in 1907 in Eastington and also one for what could be a sister Ann in 1893, also Eastington.  I'm quite sure these wouldn't fit though because at the times of marriages Helena would have been 16 and Ann only 13 - not unheard of but I feel rather unlikely.  Though of course your decision as to what you think.

Because the death year of 1909 for David refers to a one year old, I'm assuming that he was the brother of Edith, your mother-in-law who was born later in 1912.  This would fit in.

Just tidying things up Fran.  I'm saying the same to you as I'm saying to some of the others - if you'd like me to persue this further, just let m know.
