Now then Simon, although the date is a little out (but bear in mind the 1841 census rounded ages to the nearest five years) I've found the following:

RICHARD THROOP Pedigree
  Male

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening:
15 JAN 1817   Croft, Lincoln, England
Death:
Burial:

Parents:
  Father:  WILLIAM THROOP Family
  Mother:  MARY

I feel this is rather likely.  Let me know your thoughts on this and I will gladly see if I can progress it further for you.

  Female

Event(s):
Birth:

I've found the following marriage record for William Throop and Mary (Richard's parents) and again I feel this is correct bearing in mind Mary's maiden name is Orton - you'll recall we have the mention of Orton previously:

WILLIAM THROOP Pedigree
  Male   Family

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening:
Death:
Burial:

Marriages:
  Spouse:  MARY ORTON Family
  Marriage:
19 DEC 1814   Wainfleet Saint Mary, Lincoln, England

Now on the basis that Mary Orton was born 1870c I have searched 10 years each way of that to see if I can find William Throop.  I've found two possible birth records as follows:

WILLIAM THROOP Pedigree
  Male

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening:
17 DEC 1780   Alford, Lincoln, England
Death:
Burial:

Parents:
  Father:  WILLIAM THROOP Family
  Mother:  ANN

and

WILLIAM THROOP Pedigree
  Male

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening:
22 DEC 1783   Huttoft, Lincoln, England
Death:
Burial:

Parents:
  Father:  WM THROOP Family
  Mother:  MARY

I also checked for births in Leicestershire but during that period nothing came up.

Perhaps you'll look at these and let me know what you think.

Well I think perhaps that's your best option Simon.  I'll look forward to hearing what response you have after you've emailed the churches and I'll be happy to look further for you.  Again, if I find anything more in the meantime I will post it for you.

Here's a birth record I've found Simon, for Eliza Carter (father Thomas) - the area certainly fits - what do you think?

ELIZA CARTER Pedigree
  Female

Event(s):
Birth:
Christening:
02 AUG 1812   Little Steeping, Lincoln, England
Death:
Burial:

Parents:
  Father:  THOMAS CARTER Family
  Mother:  MARGARET

Hmmm, to be completely honest I'm not sure - I've exhausted the avenues I can think of.  You could try checking all churches in the relevant area/parish records to see if this produces anything.

If I can think of anything further, naturally, I'll be pleased to let you know.
