Patrick was my g/granddad who appeared in Bradford U.K. in 1891, married his 2nd wife Mary Davis then disappeared again along with Mary in 1893/4 after the birth of my granddad William. Patrick's dad was also called William but he was deceased prior to the marriage. Patrick & Mary were both tailors. That's all I have, all suggestions or information welcome.

Alan Ryan.

Hi Alan

So far I have found the following:

1891 Census
Living at 20 King Charles Street, Bradford, Yorkshire

Patrick Ryan - Widower - age 49 - occupation Tailor - born Ireland c1841
Maggie Ryan - age 15 - b Manchester - occ. Spinner
Alice Ryan  - age 14 - b Manchester - occ. Spinner

Can you confirm this is the right family before I proceed any further?

They don't seem to appear on the 1901 census.  The only Patrick Ryan in 1901 who is a Tailor, is a widower born c1837 living in Clerkenwell, London, but I don't think he is the right one.

I found three possible birth records for William:

Births Sep 1892
Ryan  William    Bradford  9b 130

Births Jun 1893
Ryan  William     Bradford, Y.  9b 47

Births Sep 1895
Ryan  William     Bradford, Y.  9b 70

Alan - This must be Patrick's second marriage:

Marriages Dec 1891
Davis  Mary    Bradford, Y.  9b 416
Ryan  Patrick     Bradford, Y.  9b 416

I'm a little concerned that you may not have received my replies as they don't appear on your site. Am I not replying properly or is it you're finding it as difficult as I have all these years ? Alan.

Hi Alan

There are only four messages (five now) in this thread, so that is all that has come through on to the site.

It looks like my first reply never got to you and I've just tried to attach a couple of certificates to save writing out the details again but that doesn't work either. I'll see if I can send them separate. With regards to the Patrick Ryan at 20 King Charles St, I had spotted him previously but couldn't find any other reference to him, my Patrick lived at 28 King Charles St and it looked like there were at least three Patrick Ryan's living in and around that and adjoining streets, ie Ripon St, Captain St, King Charles Court and Priestly St between 1891 and 1915.  All very confusing. Hope I can get the cert's off. Alan.
