Searching for Cyril Charles Farmer for my husband - it's his father that passed when my husband was only 15.

Cyril Charles Farmer born Dec. 29, 1908 in the sub-district of Osmaston in the County Borough of Derby (Derbyshire), England.   His father was Albert Farmer and his mother was Miriam Ethel Riley.  Cyril Farmer worked on the Railway as a Carriage Examiner.  He moved to Toronto, Ontario, Canada sometime before 1964.  He married Shirley Adelia Ellis in Toronto, Ont. Can. on Nov. 30, 1964.  Witnesses: Donald Mantle and Anna Mantle.  They had six children - Susan, Charlie, Jane, Zena, Brian and Martyn.  If anyone has any information please email me at patriciafarmer1953@hotmailcom Thanks Patti

Hi Marian,  thanks so much for the information so far.  Can you see if you can find anything on a a first wife for Cyril Charles Farmer.  When he moved here to Canada he married somone named Doris and they had a daughter named Roseanne.  Albert also moved here to Canada and remarried and had several children.  Any suggestions on how to find out this information?

Thanks so much, Patti

Hi Patti

I have found two possible marriages for Cyril Charles Farmer.  These are the only ones listed with a second name beginning with C.

Marriages Sep 1926
CARTWRIGHT  Mary E.  and  FARMER  Cyril C. J.
Bromsgrove  6c 501

Marriages Mar 1935
Cyril C. FARMER  and  Minnie MANNING
Uxbridge   3a 169

I don't know what year he emigrated to Canada, but I searched from 1923 thru 1940.

Hi Marian,

Thanks for the information but I don't know if they are right.  I was told that her name was Doris but my source might have been incorrect.

I think that Cyril Charles FARMER came over here when he was 16 when his mother died and he emigrated to Canada.  That would have been 1924.

Also, can you tell me why the 1911 Census has not been released yet?  I don't know anything about Census...

Thanks Patti

Hi Patti

Cyril must have married at a very young age if it was before 1924.  I will check through the marriages up to 1924.

It is the law in England that censuses are not released for 100 years.  I understand the reason has to do with the fact that some of the people listed could in fact still be alive.

Hi Marian,

Cyril was married over here in Canada.  He emigrated here from England in 1924 or 1925.  So his marrage must have been anytime after that time.  I know that his wife's name was Doris (?) and they had one daughter named "Roseanne".

Thanks for the other information. Maybe 1911 Census will help us....I am not sure where to go from here.

Thanks Patti

OK Patti, I had not realised Cyril married in Canada.

Can you tell me the area of Toronto where they lived?  There are 75 sub-districts and I don't know where to start.  If we can narrow down the place, then I am hoping we might find them yet.

Hi Marian,

Sorry about that.  Cyril left England when he was around 16 years of age...probably 1924.  He went to Toronto and did live with his father Albert and new wife for a short period of time.  I don't know how big Toronto was back then but that is about all the information that I have.  Sorry I can't be much help.  All I found out is that he married a woman named Doris and they had a child named Roseanne.

I know he remarried my husband's mother in Nov. 1964.

Thanks Patti
