Hello

This is my first visit and I wondered if you could advise me where I could find passenger listings for decendants of mine who came to Australia from England approx 1860's. I have searched records on ancestry.com but have been unable to find the people I am looking for. A relative of mine gave me a photocopy which shows them arriving aboard a vessel by the name of "Great Britain" in 1860 but I can't find any further information.  Any assistance you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ronlynn,   For births deaths & marriages indexes in victoria you can check out the site

you can download information from this site or you can go to your closest library in victoria which has a family history section and view the indexes free on microfiche & CD.
Don't forget to check all the alternative ways os spelling WILLIS as there are many errors on these indexes
Good luck

Liz

Thank you for that source - I've often looked to try and access records for Victoria. I have a day off work soon - so will be able to check it out.

Hi Liz

Thanks for steering me in the direction of the Vic BDM, I was able to confirm the birth of Joseph Hepple Willis to Joseph and Susannah in 1864, however it lists his death in 1866 , but at age 21, a misprint do you think? as parent's names match. I was also able to find some information for Stephen confirming the birth details for once of his great grandparents (what a buzz to be able to help someone else)

Hi Mike
A very delayed reply, for which I apologise - why work has to get in the way of family research I don't know !!!
I wanted to let you know that I haven't notified LDS as yet because I've been checking details on the death certs of both Joseph and Susanna - paticularly where it lists children of the marriage.
Joseph died 1888 - 2 females living (Mary & Annie) 1 male deceased (looks like this was James Hepple Willis)
but on Susannah's d 1919 - Mary (65), Annie (59) living; 2 males and 1 female deceased.
Now I'm not so sure that Sarah Jane can be completely discounted  and who the other male could be I have no idea.
It's weird though that the 2 certs that were about 30 yrs apart have conflicting info regards the children of the marriage
Looks like I have further research to do on this one -:)

Hi Mike

Well I have finally confirmed that both William Willis and Sarah Willis (as shown in the IGI listings) as children of Joseph Willis & Susannah Hepple are not their children. I applied for their birth certificates a few weeks ago. I received an email from GRO that William was not their child, and I got Sarah's cert this week, and her parents are listed as  George Willis & Mary Codd. So at least that's solved.

I will now inform LDS, I guess they will have a contact us section their website.

Thanks again for all your help. I will now move on to the next challenge

Hi Ronlyn, its better to know that.I have often said there are Flaws in the IGI Records.YES I AGREE you should notify them.
If anyone else has the same family lines,it will help them also.

Unfortunately these records are not always correct.

Hi Mike
I sent an email to FamilySearchSupport and they are unable to correct the Pedigree Resource File:

If I submit my tree as a GEDCOM is really doesn't correct the information as it doesn't replace any prior submissions.
