I am tracing my family and longing to find more about my forebears in Ireland. I know ROBERT WILEY married MARY McGRATH and so far have found they had at least 4 children ROBERT, JOHN, JAMES (my great grandfather), SARAH and possibly BERNARD.

Robert and John came to Australia in 1856, James came in 1859, Sarah arrived with her husband John White in 1864. I know Bernard was present with Robert (Snr.) when he died in Aghnahoo Glebe, County Donegal, Ireland in 1878 but certificate only says Bernard was with Robert when he died - not that he was a son. The Death Certificate states Robert was married (not widowed). I would dearly love to find Mary's death certificate and therefore more about her and also particulars of any other children or anything more about the family.

It appears the Wileys came to Ireland from Scotland as part of the "Ulster plantation" but that hasn't been proved.  I am new on this Board so hope I have set this out correctly.
Pam.

Hi Mike,
Thank you for all that information.
The family Sarah, Elizabeth, Eliza, Margaret A. Daniel Augustus etc.etc. are the children of Robert Wiley and Isabella Mundey.
Robert Wiley (son of James) (James is brother of the above Robert) married Mary Synott & are my gr. grandparents.

I am very interested in the births, marriages from Fermanagh - the Brendan Wiley born Antrim could well be the Brendan who was with his father Robert in Aghnahoo Glebe when he (Robert) died (I have that death certificate). Neighbours who remembered the family said Brendan died in the beginning of the century.

At various times I have looked at the I.G.I. but have only found James Wiley married to Mary Synott (Lynott their spelling). I'll have another look and see if I can find brother Robert and his family.

Pardon my ignorance but what does I.F.H.F. stand for? I should know but not sure. Is there anywhere I can access it?

Once again thank you for all your efforts.

Pam

I had seen that Maggie's irish kin site and even have some notes published on it but unfortunately I don't think my Robert is there - although a lot of the first names are ones our family used over the years.  My Robert Wiley was definitely married to Mary McGrath & this is mentioned on the various shipping lists when Robert, John and James came to Australia.
Another member of the family Sarah Wiley born c 1840 married John White in 1860 and came to Australia on Board "Wanata" in 1864.  She also mentions Father Robert, Mother Mary McGrath and her 3 brothers already in Australia.
I really appreciate all the information you have provided (some of which I have yet to follow up).  I visited  the Catholic church in Pettigo some years ago and there was not a single Wiley to be found.  If I get back there again I'll try Belleek and Lettercran.
Thanks again Mike.
Pam

Hi PAM,One thing we Have to remember,Robert may have lived in Pettigo. But may have been Buried where his Parents were Or where he was Born.
This Happened to My Father and His Parents.Lived in Clare Buried in Tipperary
There are a Lot of Wiley Families in the Neighbouring counties so it makes me feel the were originally from there.
So yes its worth Checking Belleek and Lettercran

Hi Mike,
My grandfather, ROBERT WILEY born in Australia in 1867 married an ELIZABETH McGRATH.  Elizabeth's father Bernard arrived in Australia in 1840 at the age of ten with his parents and siblings.  That McGrath family came fromTyrone.  So I am doubly interrested in the McGraths.

Hello again,  sorry for being slow in replying - I have been away for several days.
You certainly are thorough in your searching and I can't thank you enough.

The line you discovered on Rootsweb is one of my McGrath lines - Bernard McGrath and Mary Hartigan are my great grandparents.
The "other" McGrath line is Mary McGrath who married Robert Wylie/Wiley, my gr. gr. grandparents.

Once again thank you for all the searching you are doing for me - certainly above and beyond the call of duty!!!

Pam.

Oh, in my last email I forgot to mention - LDS (IGI) have it wrong again - the correct members of the family are the ones in the Rootsweb tree.
Pam.
