Ever since the guys gto me a water cooler, I have been doing great on my water.  I have been getting in 2-3  32 oz bottles everyday... if not more.  Thats a HUGE step for me as my water had been falling behind.  I love the Nestea pomagranate/blueberry singles as well... I use one single to 32oz ( instead of the 500 ml they recommend) and it's really good.

How's YOUR water intake going???

Zoo - did you see the doctors on the news talking about myths of drinking so much water.  Bottom line is what I have said for many years - we drink to replace what we lose and when thirsty.  I am sedentary, don't sweat and so would not need the amount you "athletic" types do.  The doctors who did the study, etc. said - everything in moderation - including drinking water.  Of course, we get fluid in our food also.
Here is a link to the article....

Study Debunks Value of Guzzling Water

WASHINGTON (April 3) - The notion that guzzling glasses of water to flood yourself with good health is all wet, researchers said on Wednesday.

Dr. Stanley Goldfarb and Dr. Dan Negoianu of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia reviewed the scientific literature on the health effects of drinking lots of water.

People need more water in hot and dry weather, but for average people in average conditions, drinking lots of water doesn't seem to improve health, researchers said.

People in hot, dry climates and athletes have an increased need for water, and people with certain diseases do better with increased fluid intake, they found. But for average healthy people, more water does not seem to mean better health, they said.

Their scientific review, published in the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, is the latest to undercut the recommendations advanced by some experts to drink eight glasses of 8 ounces of water a day.

Dr. Heinz Valtin of Dartmouth Medical School in 2002 also put those recommendations to the test, finding them to be more urban myth than medical dogma and lacking in scientific basis.

Goldfarb and Negoianu examined what Goldfarb called "four major myths" regarding claims of a benefit for extra water drinking: that it leads to more toxin excretion, improves skin tone, makes one less hungry and reduces headache frequency.

<IFRAME src="http://webcenter.polls.aol.com/modular.jsp?template=1591&view=137057&pollId=137177&channel=aol_us_health&popup=yes" frameBorder=0 width=240 height=210></IFRAME>

"Our bottom line was that there was no real good science -- or much science at all -- behind these claims, that they represent probably folklore," Goldfarb said.

As far as facilitating toxin excretion, Goldfarb said that was not verified by any sort of scientific study.

"The kidneys clear toxins. This is what the kidneys do. They do it very effectively. And they do it independently of how much water you take in. When you take in a lot of water, all you do is put out more urine but not more toxins in the urine," Goldfarb said.

No studies showed any benefit to skin tone as a result of increased water intake, they found. They also found evidence lacking that drinking water wards off headaches.

As far as lots of water serving to limit appetite, he said there was no consistent evidence, adding it was "a little unclear exactly whether that was true."

"What no one looked at is whether anyone really loses weight over the long haul if they go under this regimen of drinking lots of water," Goldfarb said. "We just expressed uncertainty in that area."

While it may not help a person to drink lots of water, it may not harm them much either, Goldfarb said.

"If someone enjoys it, I say that's wonderful, keep doing it. They're not doing anything that's going to hurt them."

"A little mild dehydration for the most part is OK, and a little mild water excess for the most part is OK. It's the extremes that one needs to avoid," he said.

Well... I find that I feel better drinking more water.  I find that my skin feels better, I start to crave the water instead of my addicitng diet pepsi...and it does help to feel fuller.  I won't agree that it fends off the minchie monster, because it doesn't.  If I want something, no glass of water is going to satisfy that.

I have had talks with my doctor about drinking water, and he agreed with the half ur body weight on oz/day.  He had only had one patient ever over dose on water, but he was drinking gallons upon gallons in a short period of time, with NOT eatting... therefore his sodium and potassium levels dropped dramatically causing him problems.
I don't agree with this...  When you take in a lot of water, all you do is put out more urine but not more toxins in the urine," Goldfarb said.  I believe that if those *toxins* are in there.. they are going to come out with drinking more water... the water flushes it out of our system.  Now you don't have to drink half ur body weight in oz's to get that mind you, but alot of people in the fitness/nutritional fields that I am around at work agree that you need atleast 8 glasses a day for better health.
I also believe that more water means less headaches... they do for me anyway.. but that could also be because I am drinking LESS pop and more water therefore it could be the pop giving  me headaches.. .I duno...  I do know that I get the  shakes and big headaches thou when I don't get my diet pepsi.  I have managed to get it to where I can go a couple days now without it, but then the shakes start...the headaches start, and a diet pepsi will releive that.
It gets kinda frustrating thou as you can ask 5 professionals, and you  will most likely receive 5 different answers/ideas/opinions.  I find that even with our Personal Trainers... we all have different views and for the most part work together, but we still go with what we have read, been taught, seen others do etc.

The water debate has always been around, and I am sure its not going anywhere anytime soon.  I will always advise people to talk with their doc as to how much water they should have ( again, docs have their own opinions as well).
And yup.. if you are exerciseing, or if it is hot out, etc.. you do need more water.  I also know people who do not get thirsty at all, and I had one particular client that told me that.  I had her  drink when she went to the bathroom, in the kitchen, before she ate etc.. and now she finds she can tell when she is thirsty.... and says it has made a few of her problems go away.

Your points are valid.  Talking with your doctor is certainly the way to go.
As for me, I am 67 and drinking very much water makes me nauseated.  I drink about 3 glasses a day with my meds and maybe milk or juice occasionally.
I do drink more when on sinus meds or have a virus or on antibiotics.
I have an overactive bladder so would spend all day AND night in the bathroom if I drank more.
We all agree water is important.

Yup Elaine...  Everyone is different as to what they can do, and like.

I just hope I keep liking the water.  I tend to go in spurts, but with the nicer weather, and the water cooler right beside my cough, I am hoping lol
I keep lots of Nestea singles in the little storage compartment in the cooler as well... and my fav mug.. so nice and handy.

I just bought a new water bottle on Clearance at Walmart, I intend on using it come Monday. I don't drink much water on Sundays, because I have church and don't want to run to the ladies room.
