I am going to work on dropping 5 lbs also. I'll keep you posted.

Sounds like a good idea Terry!!! You're right, it's not asking too much. I think that keeping exercise as a goal too is always worthwhile but don't forget to give your muscles a BREAK sometimes and use your ARMS and stomach muscles too! :)

I'll join you on the aim for 5 lbs!!! I'm trying to drop below that blasted 200lb line again...

It's a good goal to start Terry, although i would recommend you not to overexert yourself. A weigh loss program has to be fun and not exhausting, and it has to be accompained with changes in your eating habits.

Exercising is an important factor in losing weigh, but it's not the only one. Motivation is not only gained by stepping on the scale and watching a number. I recommend not to focus on the scale, but focusing on feeling good, and noticing how your clothes fit different as you progress in reaching your goal.

An important point in setting a goal, be this weigh loss, weigh gain, going on vacation, or watever goal you set, is ENJOY THE JORNEY. Enjoying every moment of your road to your objective tells your subconscious mind that IT'S FUN TO DO WHAT YOU'RE DOING TO GET FIT!... and guess what??.. WE ALWAYS DO BETTER WHAT WE ENJOY DOING!!..

Hope this help.

Best Regards

I'm finally checking in after a long time. Hope everyone has been doing well. Zoo ... hope things are okay for you.

Well, my baby came home from university and, boy , has he gained weight! [And that's not good because he plays varsity lacrosse.] He needs to loose at least 25 lbs. Since he and I are the only ones home now, we're working on the weight thing together. We're sort of following the South Beach Diet (easier to sell a 21 yo male on protein) and staying active. And I have to say, it's working! He's lost about 8 lbs already; I've lost 5 lbs. Hurray! I think this will work very well for us. We try to check in with each other at the end of the day to see how the day went. No real pressure to justify everything and definately no group weigh in. Just how our food and exercise went.
In addition, his girlfriend is sort of staying our house and she's trying to take off 10 lbs so dinners are easy.

Hope all is well with everyone.

Pam

Way to go Terry. You are off to a good start. Where did you walk for three miles? Do you live rural? It does sound like a nice evening. Keep on keepin' on.

Pam, Sounds like you some partners there. That should really help. Where does your son play Lacrosse?

Franly, welcome to the forum! :O)) What exactly is an NLP Therapeutic Specialist? :O)

Hi Yvonne:

NLP stands for NeuroLinguistic Programming THerapeutic Specialist.

I've been working with people with people with OCD, bipolar, and some others anxiety situations.

Some years ago i started applying my knowledge to weigh loss programs, focused on emotional eating and dieting (wich i dont recommend at all).

When it comes to weigh loss, i use an approach in wich dieting is the worst thing to do (at least you have certain medical condition that prohibits some food intake). It's about restoring your relationship with food, restoring the good eating habits you had when you hadn't extra pounds. Getting rid of the anxiety caused by "forbidden food", increasing self steem, and feeling good during the trip to the weight you feel confortable with.. Of course, feeling great after getting there too!!

Hugs.

Franly

Hi Yvonne,
Where I live is more cityish to me.. but they say its rural...
I just moved here a year ago.. We live in a very large complex which has been built into a side of the mountain.. so lots of hills.. We walk up and down the side streets and the main road... Its a good 5 mile complex..

I only get to see my husband for like 2 hrs a night.. the only full day we spend is on Wednesdays where we both have off from work.. but we enjoy walking and biking together...

Terry - you're doing great. Keep up the walking.
Yep, still biking to work. In fact, I don't have a choice this summer. My son's girlfriend is taking a summer course at my university. Because of her work schedule, she needs to drive to class. I gave her my parking sticker for the summer. Now I HAVE to bike or walk to work, lol!!

Yvonne - my baby plays lacrosse for Guilford College, a Quaker college in North Carolina.

Terry -

I wish I could impress you with my long bike commute to work but, no, I only have a two mile bike ride each way. However, I do have to go over a pretty big hill and I ride on the sidewalk instead of the insane road. I even have a bell on my bike. Ring-ring, coming through!
