O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? Matthew 14: 31. KJV
"Why am I here? what's my purpose?" That is the question that most of us ask ourself as we try to live day to day. But, God created each of us for a purpose and a calling and there will always be distractions along the way. Distraction will keep you from your calling if you don't stay focused.
The story of Peter in Matthew 14, is a good example of distraction, and how not staying focued will cause us to fall. Peter and the disciples were in a boat in the middle of a stormy sea, when Jesus came to them, walking on the sea. The disciples were terrified, thinking He (Jesus) was a ghost. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid" And Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You, command me to come to You on the water." (vv. 27, 28. NKJV). Jesus said, "Come," and Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water toward Jesus. But when Peter felt the strong winds, he became frightened, lost his focus on Jesus, and began to sink. Peter cried out, "Lord, save me!" Jesus stretched out his hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?" (vv.30-31 NKJV).
We have to watch out for the distractions that will try to keep us from our destiny. Peter had actually walked on the sea, until the strong wind and waves distracted him and he had trouble remaining focused on his goal.
Everyone's destiny is to come to Jesus. But we're never so close to the Lord that we can't fall, or make mistakes, or fail Him. Thats why we must stay focused, because it's easy to take our eyes off our destiny and purpose when we're just an arm's length away from God.
Fend Off Distractions: In Acts 26:16 NKJV Jesus told Saul, "Rise and stand on your feet; for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to make you a minister and a witness both of the things whcih you have seen and of the things which I will yet reveal to you" God had a purpose for Saul's life, and He has a destiny and a purpose for each of us - to come to His Son, Jesus Christ.
A distraction could come from a close friend or family member. You will meet two kinds of people in your lifetime - the dream seekers and the dream stealers. The dream stealers may be well-meaning, kind people, but they may not see the vision God has birthed in your spirit. God has put you here for a purpose, and don't let anyone talk you out of the purpose - that dream - He has placed in your heart.
