"For the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below." Joshua 2:11.
These are strange words coming for a harlot in a heathen culture! Rahab's reception of Joshua's spies was not rooted in her profession but in her awareness of a world beyond the walls of Jericho.
As an inn keeper and prostitute she must have heard fearful whispers and brash denunciations of this foreign God and His miraculous deliverance of His children. While the other citizens of Jericho feared, Rahab formed her faith in the God of Israel. And so she risked her life to hide the spies, thus identifying herself with God's people. Such faith lifted Rahab to Faith's Hall of Fame in Hebrews 11:31, where we read, "By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient."
How obedient are we to God? If we live our lives in God's will for us, keep our faith in Him and obey Him, only then can we find Joy.
