Week Four:  "Keep Me From Evil"
"Better to shun the bait, than struggle in the snare." John Dryden

Security Measures: After three border-busting requests, the last request in the Jabez prayer reaches for safety, protection, and long-term security---"Oh, Lord, keep me from evil!"

The request makes a lot of sence. When you're hugely blessed by God, you have a lot of lose. Besides, when you're taking territory for God by His power, you are taking it from someone else. And the evil one doesn't like it!
With God's hand using you in mighty ways for Him, you will become a larger target for the enemy.
That's why Jabez's prayer to be kept from evil is so important.
This week you'll discover:
What keep me from evil means.
Why you should pray to be kept from evil.
Where temptation comes from.
What the Bible has to say about God's powerful resources for Christians under attack.
How you can escape temptation when it hits and portect God's blessings in your life.

"My Temptation Inventory" (in next post. thats where we take inventory and score ourself's).

What is temptation and how does it work?

Temptation can be described as the pull we all feel to please ourselves at the expense of pleasing God. (Jas 1:14?B>every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Romans 12: 2 says;
And be not conformed
{poured into the mold of} to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Temptation is formed first in our mind (thought patterns,) this is why we must transform our mind into Godly thoughts and gird up the loins of our mind, For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.1Pe 1:13-Ro 8:6-8)

The only way we can keep ourselves from the condemnation of sin and overcome temptations is by the renewing of our minds and walking in the Spirit.

Ro 8:1-There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.?/P>

Read: 1 John 2:15-16, list the three elements of "the world" that tempt us. These 3 are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life

this is good sis

Amen Sister!! this is good teaching! thanks for your response.

THE FLESH is the Bible's term for the sinful appetites that originate in our sin nature (minds) and physical desires. Even after salvation, these desires make us vulnerable to temptation.
Listed below are; The "works of the flesh," that Paul describes in Galations 5:16-21..
Ga 5:16
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Ga 5:17
For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Ga 5:18
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.
Ga 5:19
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
Ga 5:20
Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
Ga 5:21
Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
Have you see flesh and Spirit at war in your life this past week (Gal. 5:17)
When we begin to let the Lord work through us, our flesh takes notice (so does the devil for that matter and will try to block God's work through our flesh).

Me too Baby Sister reading anything makes me sleepy. I think the reason for that is, I relax more when reading then anyother time.

THE DEVIL is the tempter. Besides putting temptations in our path, Satan fiercely oppeses God's will and work in us. Peter warns Christians that "your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour"
1Pe 5:8
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
What does "roaring lion" help you understand about satan's motives and methods?  Why might he attack with more vengeance the people faithfully praying the Jabez prayer?

Read Ephesians 6:10-18 and list the primary pieces of armor used against the "schemes of the devil".
1.  Which ones do you feel you use successfully?
2.  Which do you need to understand and apply more?

Read Ephesians 6:12 Describe what you have to "wrestle" with as the enemy opposes your ministry in the home, church, and marketplace.

If Satan decided to custom make a temptation to stop you dead in your tracts, what would it be?

…………?/P>

I don’t understand this question either…although as I reread it, I thought of the first temptations of Christ.

After 40 days of fasting, Satan, knowing that Christ was hungry, temped him with food. So in a sense I guess you could say Satan custom made this temptation. But there is No Temptation that can stop us dead in our tracks (unless we let it) because for every temptation God makes a way of escape for us. PTL!!!!

1Co 10:13

There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

What does "roaring lion" help you understand about Satan’s motives and methods?

“Roaring lion" the lion thinks he is king of all the jungle and he roars loudly to induce fear, as soon as he senses fear in his prey, he attacks, because he knows (fear) has given him the upper hand of his prey. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

This verse tells us to be watchful of this ‘tactic?for the devil is walking about looking for those whom he may devour. Well I can\and do say to the devil?“Get the behind Satan, I am not one of the “Whom?you may devour.?PTL!

Why might he attack with more vengeance the people faithfully praying the Jabez prayer?

The prayer of Jabez is no different then the prayers we all pray. He asked in prayer for 4 things #1. That God would bless him. #2. Enlarge my coast (we may say our territory etc.) #3.that thine hand might be with me. #4.keep me from evil, that it may not grieve me! We pray ?U>lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.?/P>

The devil might attack us with more vengeance because he knows that-“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.?Jas 5:16

Praise God Almighty!!!

The steps of progression between temptation and the ultimate consequence of giving in to temptation is stated in James 1:14-15.
Jas 1:12
Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
Jas 1:13
Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man
Jas 1:14
But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
Jas 1:15
Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Jas 1:16
Do not err, my beloved brethren.
SIN IS A BIG PAIN!!
Sin causes pian, period!  The Bible says, "The wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).  Satan wants you to sin because he wants to cut you off not only from God's blessings but also from your relationship with Him.  why? Because satan wants to hurt you!
This brings our Study of "The Prayer of Jabez" to an end. Thank you, my "Little Sister's," for sticking it out with me. I have enjoyed this and have learned a lot from you both as well as from this lesson.  It has been a true blessing for me.
I will close with the following scriptures. God bless you both. Love Sis Betty
Jude 1:24
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,
Jude 1:25
To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.
Thank You Father for Your word and the many blessings You have given us in this Study. To You be all glory! Amen!
