Telling My World About Jesus

Study 5: Focal Scriptures: Mark 5:18-20; Mathew 28: 16-20; 3 John.

In variety of ways, Christians can become involved in telling their world about Jesus. The purpose of this study is to help you decide to choose ways you will become involved in telling your world about Jesus.

Telling People closest To Me; Mark 5:18-20. When we hear good news, we rejoice in hearing it and seek opportunities to tell others.

The man in Mark 5:1-20 had good news to tell.

Before he met Jesus, his life was totally out of control. A legion of demons possessed him. The drove him to do things that led his family, friends, and neighbors to put him in chains. He broke the chains and fled to the cemetery, where his cries could be heard day and night. His confrontation with Jesus was tumultuous, but Christ’s power prevailed over and transformed him. When the crowd gathered, they were amazed to find him sitting quietly, clothed, and perfectly sane. Meeting Jesus changed everything for the man.

Think about the time you received Jesus as your Savior. If you have not done so, consider doing it now. If you have, what difference has Jesus made in your life?

The man wanted to be with Jesus (v.18). This is evidence of our being saved. We want to experience fellowship with Jesus. We can enjoy that fellowship through the Holy Spirit. Through Bible Study, meditation, and prayer, we can strengthen our awareness of Jesus?presence. Sometimes we do this alone; and sometimes our fellowship with Jesus is strengthened by relating to other people who love Him, such as here at Granny’s Place.

The man wanted to follow Jesus. What did Jesus tell him to do (see v.19)? Jesus told the healed man to tell the good news to those closest to him; his family, his friends, the people he knew. We can influence those people most effectively. Witnessing to strangers has it’s place, but people most impacted are usually those who know us personally and realize the difference Jesus has made in our lives.

Jesus commanded the healed man to “tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you?(v.19).

Suppose the healed demonic had remained silent and just let his life speak for itself. How would anyone have known that Jesus had transformed him? Who would turn in faith to Jesus because of a man’s changed life?

Without a transformed life, no one will listen to our words; but a transformed life must be accompanied by a verbal witness for, Jesus to be effective. The healed man did what Jesus instructed him to do. He told how much Jesus had done for him. What was the results? “And all the people were amazed?(v.20).

What happens when one person in a non-Christian family finds Christ? If the new Christian’s life is really different and he or she bears an enthusiastic testimony for the lord, often a whole family or groups of friends comes to the Lord.

Who among our family or friends does not yet know Jesus as Savior? Write their names down (I write names down on small strips of paper, fold it up and put it into a pottery vase I have, that has a lid. I also put prayer request for other things, in this case too. I pray over these often. About once a month, I take the strips out and the one’s that I know God has moved on, I take out and then praise and thank God for His Word. The others I leave in until God answers that prayer. My Mother taught me to do that.) and pray regularly for them. Ask the Lord to show you what you can do to talk about Jesus and the difference he makes in you. Pray for God to prepare them, to give you courage and wisdom, and to receive honor to Himself through it all.

Telling The World: Matthew 28:16-20.

Jesus rose from death as He promised. He appeared on several specific occasions to various followers. Jesus appeared to His disciples in Judea (see Luke 24; John 20). Jesus told them to go to Galilee, that He would appear again at a mountain (v.16). When He appeared to them there, he gave what we have come to call “the Great Commission?because it powerfully describes Jesus?expectations of His followers. Paul said 500 people were present then (1 Cor. 15:6). The heart of the Great commission is the command to “make disciples of all nations.?The Lord said the command is to be carried out by going, baptizing, and teaching.

Going; is necessary because Jesus?strategy for teaching people is to seek and save the lost (Luke 19:10), and He expects us to take the good news wherever people are. All of us are called to be committed to Christ, to pray, to give, and to witness as we go.

Baptizing; visibly expresses what happens when a person receives Jesus as Savior. Being buried in water and raised again shows that the person being baptized believes that Jesus was buried and rose again. Baptism also pictures the believer’s death to sin and being raised to new life spiritually. We become disciples by being saved by grace through faith, then we are baptized ?U>in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Teaching; reminds us that Jesus?commission includes education. Once we lead people to become followers of Jesus, we are to teach them to do everything He taught. All of us can share the gospel in a variety of ways throughout the world. Churches, hospitals, schools, childcare institutions, and other services as Our Christian Websites, are make possible and support by your God given gifts and talents. These are opportunities for people to hear the gospel and to see it at work through you. WE teach each other, as well as people around the world.

No matter how people respond, they will have been confronted with a powerful call from the Lord through His faithful followers because you can. Carrying out the commission calls for the best we have and are, but it is not a human enterprise. This is the Lord’s Work. Although the incarnate Lord was about to leave His disciples to return to the presence of God in heaven, He promised; “Surely I am with you always.?He promised to be with His followers as they carried out His commission. He never ask us to do anything that He does not provide the resources and strength to do.

Working Together; 3 John 5-8.

God calls some people to go forth as missionaries. For them to give full time to their work as missioners, they need support from other Christians. Not all churches participate in mission work. I know of a church where one leader strongly supported missions, while another took a strong stand against missions. So strong was his opposition that he forced those who supported missions out of the church.

This seems to be the situation behind the short personal letter called 3 John. Take time to read the letter. John, “the elder,?wrote to the church leader, Gaius, to encourage him to continue supporting missionaries. John didn’t tell Gaius exactly how much to give, but he told him to support the missionaries “in a manner worthy of God?(v.6).

This includes such matters as money, food, lodging, and traveling companions.

This also means that our mission giving should be worthy of God - Who loved the world so that He sent His Son.

Who is our Creator and Heavenly Father.

Who saved us from sin and gave us eternal life.

Who is the Giver of everything that is good.

In a since, we are missionaries, we “work together for the truth?(v.8). We are traveling companions, by support God’s Word on the “Worldwide Web.?This one way ?U>We tell our world about Jesus.?/P>

This concludes Lesson #1..“Becoming What God Wants Me To Be.?/P>

I pray that this lesson has shown you that you have a significant place of service to fill in the life of the church and the body of Christ. I’ed like to thank you all for your love and kindness to me and each other, and that you will continue to tell our world about Jesus. Our next Lesson, #2 is on "Profiles In Virtue."  There are 4 Studies in this lesson, refer to the Study Guidlines.  God Bless All, Love in Christ, Sister Betty.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise; be thankful unto him, and bless his name.  For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations. Psalm 100:4-5.

The Lord Jesus tells us to let our light shine, so that others may see the good work of God in us, the light of the child of God is to shine forth as a beacon unto a lost and dying world.

Thank you for this study, my apoligies for not coming in sooner. Bless YOU Betty.

I agree the bible study section is going a little slow,  does anybody have suggestions as to what would make it easier all the way around. For Granny especially , she works hard on these, would be a shame to have this discontinued. If there are no replys, she does't know we've been here. Then the study sits here getting buried. Bible Study is here for our benefit, so we can get a more in depth look at the bible. It is our learning tool to help us understand , so we can be a better witness for Jesus. .
Any way, Thanks for listening, God Bless you all, Elaine

Thank you Sis and Elaine for your input,,I was thinking of discontinueing this Bible Study because it is a long study...so I prayed about it and came to realize that I can't just stop. I made a commitment to God and I have to carry it out.  I've even tried to shorten my part of it to make it easier for others,,but I can't do that either or I will be leaving out half of God's word.  So I will be posting "Lesson 2-Study 1" tonight.  Please feel free to join in whenever you can.  God Bless All. Love in Christ Sister Betty.
