I would like to share a story about my brother, Kenneth (Nettie's 5th child). I wasn't born at the time this took place, but I heard the story many times over the years and it always brought a smile to my face.

Kenneth was just a small boy and one day while the family was at church, Kenneth stood up on the pew and made this announcement......."Don't nobody know what I got in my pocket." The congregation got quiet and my mother was thinking..."Oh Lord, what could he have in his pocket?" And then Kenneth says....."I've got a 'hole' in my pocket." Needless to say, my mother was somewhat relieved and a little embarrassed all at the same time.

Kenneth is longer with us, but he can still make us smile. I love you, brother.

Love Ruth

Hello,
I am Ruth's daughter, Cynthia.  I never really knew him and I wish I did.  Is there anyway you can tell me more about what he was like.  I would REALLY like to know him better.  And for some odd reason, even though I didn't know him,  I really miss him.   All I know was he was a really great person and everyone, just about, loved him.

Hi'dy Cyndie, great to see you in the house again, I have sure missed you!! Hope you are doing good!!
Honey, Kenneth was much younger than me, so I don't have any stories other than, Him and Bubba being little rascals (mischievous) and they would run off and come to my house, then I would have to take them home. My baby Sister Sue would be able to tell you more about him, he was closer to her than any of us, I think. Kenneth was more like a little brother than a cousin, I love and miss him too. I'm closer in age to your Aunt Ginger, Uncle Joe and Uncle Paul. They are all like sibblings to us and I love them all dearly. I wish I could remember details of our childhood, but I have to ask Redda or Bubba (Ronnie) when I want to know something..they have a great memory of those days.  Maybe we can get Sue to write down some stories, and tell us more about Kenneth. Hope to hear from you again soon. God Bless. All my love your 2nd cousin Betty Rose

Kenneth Rufus Lawson,What can I say he was a great Brother one like no other.I have many stories that I could tell,Many that can't be told here.I'll try and tell alittle bit about him but it is still hard for me to do as we were pretty close & I to miss him bad.
Kenneth was named after our GrandPa Gober.(Rufus Smith Gober) and in his last days Kenneth was known by Rufus.Kenneth was a person that would give the shirt off of his back if you needed it.He Loved his Family and his Friends. He knew God but you could not get him to go to Church because of all the things that go on in some of them. But he could tell you things about the Bible that would make you get yours down and get to looking,And it may take you awhile to find it but it was there just the way he said it would be.Kenneth done alot of drinking and partying but I belive that on that night he cried out to God,And ask him to forgive him and save his soul.Kenneth was a little Man like his Dad & was a good carpenter like his Dad.He Loved country music Willie Nelson was his idol and Blues Eyes Crying in the Rain was one of his favorite songs by Willie.
Yes Kenneth was Loved by many and is missed by many.In his own special way Kenneth touched alot of people.I said earlier that he was a little Man.But if you look at this way he's not. Some people say that it's not the size of the person that makes the Man, but the size of the Heart that makes the size of the Man,If you look at this way Kenneth was a Big Man !!
Brother I do Love You and miss you alot.I often think back when we were young,And wish we could go back and do it again.I look forward to seeing you & Dad in Heaven...Your Lil bud Rusty

Kenneth what a blessing to have known him, and time has not took our memories away.

He was the type of person that once you met him, you would never forget him.

He and Alton Wayne was in my car with me trying to teach me how to use the clutch, it was hilarious. As my family members know, when I laugh- I cry (I’m not talking about watery eyes) but to the extent of blinding tears.  We were on Melwood St. in B.W. and I was ‘chugging alone?trying to following their instructions. Kenneth yelled, “Just pop the clutch and give it gas?and when I did the car jumped forward, (and me being blinded by tears) didn’t see the ‘parked pick-up?and bang-- I hit it.

We were ok and no damage to the pick-up, but I had a broken headlight. Kenneth kidded me about that day for years.

I sure do miss you Cuzz.

What a precious story Sis, and the one from Rusty (Damon) just warms my heart. I too miss Kenneth, only thing is for the life of me, I can't remember what it is I miss..because of a blacked out period of my life..I can't remember anything but his hair and that I loved him like a brother.
But I will see him again in Glory. Amen!

Hi'dy Tess blessed to see you in the house!! I don't remember stories to tell about Kenneth, he was too much younger than me, I'm closer in age to Gene, Joe, Ginger and Paul. But Bubba (Ronnie, my younger brother) has many to tell of them and things they got into
I do know that he loved everybody and would do anything for you.
Thanks for sharing with us. God bless you, love Cuz Betty

Tonight I would like to share a song I wrote for Kenneth shortly after he passed away in 1988.

Don't You Worry Brother

Don't you worry Brother, don't you worry now; we'll see you in the morning, so don't you wear a frown. Now this old life is hard and the road it's rough and long, but we'll all be together at the break of dawn.

The time it's growing near and we can't fall by the way; it's time to get ready for that judgement day. Now I know your heart was broken and I know how sad you've been, oh but now's the time to rejoice for soon we'll be marching in.

So don't you worry Brother, don't you worry now; no don't you worry Brother and don't you wear a frown.

It's been a few years since I've been home for Thanksgiving... and I won't be going home again this year, but I can't help but think of all the faces that will be missing around the table this year. My heart aches for that day when we all will be marching over there and we'll share a feast like we've never known before.

This is so sweet Ruth. Yes, there will be many missing around the Thanksgiving Table this year- they are rejoicing around the banquet table, waiting for us to join them.
