That's My Daddy
If there's a smile on his face For the whole human race, That's my Daddy.
If kids are anywhere around, He's their magician-circus clown, That's my Daddy.
When gripes and moans surround him, They don't faze him, they don't down him...
When all else is going wrong, You don't have to wait for long, He'll soon bellow out a song, That's my Daddy.
He'll talk the legs right off a stranger, If you're a sourpuss, you're in danger...
You've met The king of ornery teasers, Fishermen And people-pleasers...
He's a corker! And what's more, sir, That's my Daddy!

Redda, I was missing my daddy tonight, and came across this post. That sweet little poem reminded me of him, (are all daddies like that? Unfortunately for some, no). My dad was the gentlest Irishman you could ever meet, he was kind, thoughtful, would do anything for anyone. He was loving and gentle with my sister and me, even letting us put mum's curlers in his hair! (He was bald actually, with just a bit of hair round the sides - we curled it none-the-less). He was protective of us, and taught us fine moral values. He and my mother were well-matched, and she grieved so much after he died in 1968 of a heart attack, she only lived for 2 more years. I loved him more than anyone when I was a child, and knew I could always count on him - more so even that my mum. It broke my heart when he died, and I often miss him, even after 37 years! The only man I have met who can come anywhere near him is my beloved husband, who is very much like dad in nature, if not in looks. Thanks for posting that poem, and I pray for you that your memories of your daddy will always make you smile, and not weep. Love and hugs, Eilleen |

I was a spoiled-rotten daddy’s girl. I take after my daddy and the older I get the more I look like him. My daddy always called me “Hopper? My daddy had one fault (when it came to me) He never spanked me or disciplined me, so I took full advantage of him (when Mother wasn’t around) My mother loved enough to spank and correct me and she is the reason I have respect for others today. She taught me about God, caring and sharing. The older I get the more I realize it’s easy to raise a child if you let them have their own way. But it takes a parent with a correcting rod to bring a child up in the way it should go. Wendi your daddy and I were the very best of friends as well as cousin’s, and I such fun memories of him. |

Wendi, I was browsing through the message boards and wanted to let you know a memory I have of your Daddy. Years ago Alton, Beth, Carl, Travis and Shannon lived with us. I was younger than the other kids there. While the older ones where at school I got to stay home. I remember your Dad giving me pecans. So now even 25 years later if I see or taste a pecan I think of my cousin Alton. It's a silly memory but it was mine and Alton's thing. I hope you don't mind me sharing it. Mandy |
