"He Only Took My Hand"

Last night while I was trying to sleep,
My son's voice I did hear,
I opened my eyes and looked around,
But he did not appear.

He said, "Dad, you've got to listen,
You've got to understand,
God didn't take me from you, Dad,
He only took my hand.

When I called out in pain that day,
The moment that I died,
He reached down and took my hand,
And pulled me to His side.

He pulled me up and saved me
From the misery and pain.
My body was hurt so badly,
I could never be the same.

My search is really over now,
I've found happiness within,
All the answers to my empty dreams
And all that might have been.

I love you all and miss you so,
And I'll always be nearby.
My body's gone forever,
But my spirit will never die.

And so, you must all go on now,
And live, and understand...
God did not take me from you,
He only took my hand."

((BUMP)) Ray's family are doing fine and getting on with their lives.  His wife has remarried this past year. The children are big now and doing great in school. They still live in their home in Texas.

Hi Everyone,
This is Lupe, Ray's wife.  I just wanted you to know that I will always consider myself priveleged to have been married to the kindest men that I have ever known.  I understand why Ronnie is heartbroken, when Ray died alot of hearts broke all at once.  I do have faith that he is with God, and that faith has alway sustained me. I want you to know that your son/brother/nephew and friend will always be remembered by his family.  Our kids are doing well and I am continually grateful to God that he has helped them to get through the hardship of losing their "favorite" parent. It's ok, I don't mind giving Ray his props. He was their favorite. Our kids are now 14, 11, 10 and 6.

Aaron (14) is about 6' 2" and wearing size 15 shoes!! He is doing well in school and pretty girl crazy (reminds me of his daddy).  He is a lecture in our church and plays the TUBA, pretty well.  Josh is in 6th grade, he is also pretty healthy. This one loves to eat, he plays football and loves to ride around on his scooter. Don't worry grandpa it only goes 10 m per hour and he wears a helmut.  Michael is in 4th grade.  He is most like his father.  He wears glasses and loves to play video games.  He sometimes shows his temper and has to sit in time out!  He is very popular and has alot of friends.  Our youngest will always be a daddy's girl. She is still the biggest tomboy on the block, she is in 1st grade.  She is a very beautiful and intelligent girl.  I know it has been difficult for everyone to deal with Ray's death, I just want you to remember that he will always live in our hearts and memories.  My love for Ray did not end when he died, I will love him until I die.  Please keep us in your prayers. We love each of you.
Lupe Bishop Yarbrough

Oooooo Lupe Honey, hearing from you is an answer to so many prayers. Thanks you so much for joining our family site and letting us hear about you and the children. Grandpa will be so happy too. He hasn't done well at all since Ray went to be with Jesus.  His health has been bad and he has had some surgery, but is doing much better now. Grandma has been sick too. They still live in the old home place. Faith has a little boy now and Chad is about grown too, I think he is 18 now. I don't know much about the others, I don't hear from them often.
You have done a great job with the children, they sound so grown. I would love to see you all.
Plase come and visit real often here at Granny's, we love you and the children, you all are still a part of us. God Bless you Honey and if there is anything at all we can do for ya'll just let us know. I love you very much. Aunt Betty

Hi Trina,

It's great to here from you.  I just lucked into finding the website.  I was actually trying to find an article that I had run in the newspaper about a year ago.  Anyway, it was very touching finding something about Ray.  Well the weekend is finally here and they are bugging me to go to the "cheap" movies!  They have the night all planned out.... pizza & a movie!  Aaron (the oldest) and my husband Greg went to Lewisville today to watch my step son Ryan pitch.  So it's just us four... I better go. Take care & keep in touch.

I think if I recall correctly I might have some pictures that Ray took at your wedding... if you are the one that married around 6 years ago (or so)... take care,
Lupe

Well it's an honor to talk to Aunt Redda, :) Ray always had a special place in his heart for all of his aunts.  Thank you for the kind words and I will peek in once in a while, (when I am allowed a spare moment) !! Take care, we are off to the movies.

Thank you Aunt Betty you are very kind.  I did get to visit with JD at Christmas, he looked great (just a little skinny!) He got to spend some time with the kids.  He gave me some photos of Ronnie, Sandra, Chad, Faith (her beautiful baby) and new husband and his own daughter Demi.  Faith also sent me some photos she had taken, she is so proud of her new baby!

I am sorry it took me so long to respond, I can usually be best described as a dog trying to catch my own tail!! Some days I just go in circles, but I'm sure anyone that has ever had kids can understand.

I will keep in touch.
take care,
Lupe

Hi Mandi,
Yes I do remember you! :) Ray always spoke very fondly of you.
I remember when you got married because he thought you were still a baby! The kids are all growing up, Aaron will be 15 in February, Josh is 12; Michael will be 11 in February too and Alyssa is 7 going on 17! (If you know what I mean). Anyway, Greg and I are expecting a baby soon, due in April so the whole family is excited about that!
take care,
Lupe Bishop Yarbrough
