Hi Everyone,
I have not written in a while. I missed reading all your messages, they help so much!! Well heres the deal. I am almost ready to leave my clinic.  I have been a client here for about 6 months. My maximum dose was 45mgs.  I am now down to 8mgs. !! I go down 1 mg. every other day.  Which means I will be out of here in about 2 weeks!! I can't wait!! But I am scared... I am doing really good so far. I use a clonadine patch that is an unbelievable help! I am much more relaxed than I was to say the least! Plus I started talking an antidepresant called Remeron, that helps me sleep. I also drink soda water, that believe it or not helps with the body aches. Soda water has something called quinne in it. A doctor told me that would help, and I can't believe it does! I Don't know what to expect from here on though. Can anyone offer me any suggestions. I would really appriciate it. Thank you!!!!

Cindy:  Awesome I applaud your efforts to overcome your addiction. One suggestion I have is to have someone there with you when you need support.  I am so happy for you that your withdrawal is going smooth. I've been there and done that and my biggest obsticle to overcome was being alone.  so having a friend around that support my initative to be clean was the biggest asset I could have had.  Good luck stay strong and Congratulations .

Anawakener has the right idea---Get a support system in place before you get off the juice--You don't have to go thru this scarey time alone--use group therapy, 12 Step Groups, other addicts who have succeeded in dealing with their addictions, use us, etc etc---DON'T RUSH the last 8 mgs faster then you need to--its not a race! What difference does a month make when you're looking for a better life......

Clonadine really helps. It isn't a benzodiazapine, its actually a blood pressure medication. Doctors use it to control sweats and chills in people detoxing off opiates. A kick kit including clonadine, promethazine and a benzo like lorazapam or diazapam really does wonders when detoxing. Promethazine is a medication used to help with nausea and stomach cramps. Its easy to get from doc's because its not a controled substance. Getting a benzo well sometimes it isn't easy. I live in Seattle and thank god that there are two kick doctors here in the city that specialize in opiate addiction. They prescribe awesome kick kits. I always got promethazine, clonadine, dicyclamine-for severe stomach cramps, lorazapam aka Ativan for anxiety, flurazapam for sleep, and prescription strength Immodium AD, and carisoprodol aka Soma for relaxing muscles. When I decide to detox off methadone I will go with that kick kit towards  the end of detoxing. The doctor that has a private practice specializing in opiate addiction also works part time at the clinic I am on, so everything should run nice and smooth. Most people that I have known that have detoxed off report feeling kinda drab for a month or two afterwards. Mostly insomnia and leg cramps, nothing major. I have always hating not being able to sleep, but only because I was in so much pain and agony due to the combination of all the withdrawal symptoms. Puking non-stop and feeling like I could not get confortable at all were the ones that drove me crazy.  Good luck! TK

Hi,
Just wanted to let anyone who doesn't already know that Clonadine is not a benzo. You may be thinking of Clonapin which is a benzo. It's a really common mistake. In my experience there is no way that a benzo would be prescribed to people on meth because it is commonly abused by them. However, I have taken Xanax (a benzo) for withdrawal from meth and it was a lot more helpful than clonadine. Clonadine is most commonly used for high blood pressure, so you have to be pretty careful with it, because if you take too much your blood pressure could fall to dangerously low levels.
Anyway, great group! I just joined. I'm 30 years old, female from NY and have been on methadone for almost 5 yrs (I got off at one point but got back on a few months later). Also, I tried Ibogaine to get off meth. It totally sucked and was the most hellish experience of my life. Has anyone else out there used Ibogaine to get off meth or heroin? I'd love to hear from you!

Thanx for the info but I wrote the same thing in the post right above yours about Clonadine being a blood pressure medication that helps with chills and sweats. But it is not a benozdiazepine. I think the person was confused with Klonopin like you mentioned. ~Thunderkiss~

They do use clonidine for opiate withdrawal , if you are in withdrawal in jail if they give you anything it will probably be clonidine. And as far as benzos you are right that they are highly abusive however there are some that are used for methadone patients with a degree of success and klonopin being one of them.

Hi Cindy.
First off, well done on where you've go to already. I know how hard it is to come off meth. I've done it twice and twice off gear. The best advice I can give yer about what to do when you get out the clinic-is to watch out for the 2 or three month stage when you might think you're ok to have a little 'one-off' smoke(or whatever) of brown(smack). This is the time I've messed up in the past, maybe some people are different but personally I know once off I can never have a taste again, ever. You don't say where you're from but if it's UK(like me) you can get Naltraxone thats a blocker and it stops any opiates working for about 3 days and you take a tablet a day so it covers you preaty well. Also there not addictive or got any bad side effects( but make sure you've had no meth or other opiates for 7 days b4 takin one or you'll feel like shit, if you've been clean a week thou' you don't feel a thing.)
The worse part I think is the lack of energy and feelin run down for weeks after deetoxing, I found trying to keep busy by going to the gym, taking my dog 4a walk anything except spending hours and hours in front of the tv, I found it took me a good month after finishing detox b4 I felt ready 2 go back to work, even then I was sooo tired in the afternoons on the building site. Try to have somthing planed each day even if it is just a walk round the shops or a dog walk, there's nothing more likely to send you into relapse than days and weeks ahead with nothing to do or look forward to. If you can afford it a short holiday is good for cheering you up when you feel down.
Anyway Good luck and I hope everything go's well for you.
Cheers.
Lee.

<PRE>Naltrexone is very hard on your liver. Not at all recommended if you have Hep
C. It does have side effects, rashes, spacy feeling, and a host of others.
Overdosing is greatly increased if one stops taking the naltrexone or if it
is overridden, which one can do. Needless to say, I am not a fan. Please
check it out before you make a decision to try it. It is a total antagonist.
It blocks the mu and the kappa receptors. If one was hurt seriously and
needed pain meds...well, you are shit out of luck!!!! Randy

I have been on the opiate blocker Naltrexone and it made me feel really blah. Like I couldn't feel any pleasure in anything. I always ended up using lotz of cocaine while on it to try to feel something. Then I ended up back on dope. I was really good at cheekin' the pills so my mom wouldn't know that I wasn't taking them.  I have thought of taking it again if I really start craving big time after I get off methadone, but I don't know if I really will. I do not want to use again, I fear that I would commit suicide or end up in the local psych hospital if I get strung out again. I was on Naltrexone many times, at least ten. I still have full bottles of the stuff sitting in the medicine cabinet. I haven't known anyone that has actually gotten clean by kicking then getting on that stuff and then staying clean. Everyone I know has basically followed the same pattern as me, they started using cocaine or speed to feel something, then they ended up back on their favorite drug heroin. Now that I have thought this out and typed this message I realize that I think the med suckx and I don't think I would take it again.
Thunderkiss
Oh yeah here in Seattle there is actually this scam of a program, its called the Trexan Program. Basically you attend group sessions and they monitor you taking naltrexone for three months, and the cost is a lovely $5,000.  My parents tried to make me go, I told them straight up that is was not worth the 5 g's. They were just so desperate to see me get help. Why pay that amount of money when you can see the local kick doc and get the same script for $80 and take it at home and have someone monitor you if you wish.
